I have a poor memory.
Is Saluki the best puppy for Eeepc?
Does it take care of the internal fan?
There is a thread about such here
Is my Asus Eee 900 fan running?
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=79450

I know too little so I should not try to help him. That would only destroy the chance
he get a good answer. I know this from long experience so I ask you guys. Is Saluki the
best answer to him? Now he use Lupu and I don't trust it get the fan running.

I do have a Eeepc 900 but have put it in a drawer to not destroy it. So I want to know too.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

I loaded up /usr/share/pixmaps/loading.xbm in Gimp and just deleted the existing loading message replacing it with my own. Rebooted, and it appeared good as gold.

I didn't bother editing .xinitrc because having a file called "loading" seemed logical enough for its purpose, but your theory seems sound if anyone would have need to change the location of the loading splash screen :),
Did a quick HOWTO on how to change this image and posted a different image there. 8)

Just trying out a frugal install of 021 and really like the look & feel. Some really nice features. However, have found something missing in Midori. It doesn't display the maps on the UK Met Office site (one I use a lot with the terrible summer weather we're presently experiencing.) This has never happened with Seamonkey/Firefox/Opera I have in various other frugal puppies I have installed. Tried installing Flash player 11 and Mozilla libs 10 from the package manager (which I needed anyway) but made no difference. I don't see any facility for add-ons or plugins within Midori. Incidentally the installer reported missing libmozsqlite3.so which I believe is connected with SSL 3.0. For a former Windows user the task of locating and installing this missing library is proving far from intuitive. Any nudges in the right direction would be appreciated. However the missing lib doesn't seem to affect the general browsing experience. Of course I could just install Firefox or Opera and be done with it but this seems to rather go against the developers aims of keeping Saluki sleek and fast.

I'm compiling midori .4.6 with webkit 1.8.1. We shall see it's more stable but probably you're still going to want to install a sturdier browser.

Usually the fan control packages are to enable you to force the fan off (I've been meaning to package this for saluki but haven't yet).

The fan should be on be default. If not, and it's overheating, there might be something wrong with the hardware.

no creation of 4fs

#3407 Post by Dromeno »

Bug alarm for the not English:

The 2fs or 4fs pupsave file will only be created if you reboot or shutdown saluki in its original language. When the interface is switched to (in my case) Dutch, the naughty dog refuses to create one!

Saluki is now pretty much feature-complete. I will do one more bugfix release and probably call it good for a while unless major problems are found. My plan is to work on package requests until my new job starts.

A huge kudos and thanks should be going out to akash_rawal for building the pup-volume-monitor that makes the desktop drive icons possible. This is a beautiful piece of work and other lightweight distros are going to be jealous if they ever find out about it. I think it’s pretty stable now – anyway it’s working perfectly for me now. This replaces most of what was in /sbin/pup_event_frontend_d.

I built midori 0.4.6 against the latest stable webkit. It’s probably still not perfect.

I removed streamtuner – I guess not too many people use it. It’s in the repo if you want it.

I didn’t build a new devx yet. I want to build it with the sfs builder so I can include perl and python without causing issues with dependency checking. It should be fine to use the saluki 022 devx with saluki 023. I should have the new devx ready for saluki 024.

I've downloaded saluki 023 twice and get a MD5 of

Code: Select all

91aeb0dbafd7c1176d2343559138a312
The MD5 in luki-023.iso.md5.txt is

Code: Select all

34aff169ce6e7e207c3e8e4e7802a7bf
Anyone get the same result? I haven't tried installing it yet as it may have errors.

As usual boots quickly on Acer netbook.

Screen >> 1024 x 600

Right click on network >> on toolbar for Frisbee....good.

Browser works fine.
Won't use Flash for Youtube...
had to download Seamonkey.

Sound was awful...fixed after selecting Realtek
and adjusting xnoise volume as well.

Bad habit....media player won't turn off when playing an mp3.
No wonder it's called xnoise.

OK ...finally see it >>> RHS on taskbar.

Still annoying for a newbie.
Reminds me of Puppy 4.3.1

Every time you opened it the media icon stayed.
Played 3 times = 3 icons

"""""""

Still would like a browser on the desktop.

Not immediately apparent where I can add it.

Yeah...found >>right click in file manager..add to desktop

But 4 newbies????????????

You did see the ++++ ICYOS video didn't you...of Saluki.

Chris.

The correct md5sum should be

Code: Select all

9f671ab86f702e142109787f5a7af052 luki-023.iso
I'm not sure why both files were wrong. I have fixed the md5sum.txt file as well.

Looks like that only the midori_NLS-0.4.6-i486.pet had made it to the repo. Not the exe file.
(more after ISO re-download  )

LatterOne thing that is probably a bug of Volume mounter is that after suspend/resume it shows the swap partition of an SDcard on the desktop. This might be due to the kernel I use (3.3.8-olpc) or not.
After suspend/resume also shows on the desktop look0, 1, 2 etc. Basically whatever /dev is in "df".
None of these was the case till 022

Also when booting from a USB does not offer to create the save file in other devices (SDcard in this case). Only boot device. Is this a feature or a bug?

Okay then, when trying to get pets with Midori you get a blank box -- so you just press Enter and your download does alright. So I'm next using SeaMonkey 2.7.2 doing a stupid distro download from some jerk-linux and I double click the Home icon and kapow Seamonkey disappears along with 45 minutes of several megabytes. (no torrent was avail) -- We'll try Firefox now.

LATER: Hey don't mistake me, this is really special. I think it beats the hell out of 96% of any other non-pup's. The file system with all the easy drag/drop stuff makes it obviously a keeper. Firefox is quite stable & I got the Flash pet so I can watch Icyos and maybe Spatry wank on and on. I'm going to forget about distrowatch for awhile, thanks Jemimah.
