sorry, i forgot a $
if [ "yynn" = "yes" ]
should be
if [ "$yynn" = "yes" ]

if you put the missing $ in uninstall-icedock, it should work

Xkill

this is not working quite right
it leaves behind bash processes
(i think Fvwm95's kill plugin may do that too)
anyway, you can try it if you want

this is an Xkill roxapp
it installs an icon in my-roxapps
click the icon to run xkill
drag the icon to the desktop if you want a shortcut
right click the icon fo Help or to Uninstall

comes with a tooltip

Useage:
click the xkill icon, the cursor will change,
click a window to kill it
right click to cancel

Zlib 1.2.2-8 (used by zip, unzip, png)

#163 Post by GuestToo »

Zlib 1.2.2-8

some versions of zlib (used by zip, unzip, png)
have security vulnerabilities

as far as i know, Puppy does not have the latest security vulnerability (it may have others)

at the time of this writing, there is not an official bugfix, but some distros have already fixed it

this is a binary from Debian, which has the bugfix
i have been using it for a few days and have noticed no problems

here's an installer if you want to use the Debian binary in Puppy

NOTE: if this does not work right, it can cause problems. There is an uninstaller and also you can type zlib-fix to disable the patch if you have problems.

it seems to work ok on my machine

Download and test

#165 Post by Lobster »

Mut is an important release. It is a specialised program that will be a part of Puppy 1.0.4

I urge everyone to download and offer feedback to Jesse. All it does (and rather well) is mounting and unmounting of disks (access data on all media)

I am hoping to use it to play a DVD, and burn the new 1.0.4 ISO (and Bladehunters version as a test) when available.

Mut is kewl 8)

 seem to have broken it - maybe it was the 5 1/4" disk I have as df0:
(yep I really have one of those . . .)

The program has gone empty (black box in program all else gone)
I have killed it and restarted and it just opens as a black box program
- ohh its reappeared - must be scanning . . .

are we having fun yet . . .

MUT 0.0.5.rc2

#166 Post by Jesse »

Hi,

this is a release candidate, testing only oks :) or installer for an older puppy (pre 1.0.4) without mut ok too :)
This one always runs in debug mode (roxapp script to change that) and output file is in /root/my-roxapps/Mut/mut-0.0.5.rc2/mut-debug-output.txt

Remember if you find bugs in it, its useful if you can report them.

I'm so chuffed, this is my first dotpup 8) (crosses fingers)

BC and DC 1.06-17 - cli arithmetic

BC is a language that supports arbitrary precision numbers with interactive execution of statements. There are some similarities in the syntax to the C programming language.

DC is a reverse-polish desk calculator which supports unlimited precision arithmetic. It also allows you to define and call macros.

these are command line programs

your Mut dotpup seems to work ok

you don't have to use my roxapp of course
and you can change the icons
(i used a crystal icon from art.gnome.org ... hope the license is ok, it's sometimes hard to find the license)

i think maybe you can delete old dotpups from the server .... or replace them by uploading newer version

put your dotpups anyplace you like ... i put mine all in one thread so they are all in one place, in date order ... maybe it would be better if they were split up in more than 1 thread

MUT Error

#169 Post by PeterSieg »

Hi. I get an error message within a qemu environment running 1.0.3
bare bones intalled on hdd.

Error: Could not read "/proc/bus/usb/devices": no such file or directory

That's probably because qemu doesn't have any usb devices to simulate..?
So I believe, one would see this only if there are no usb devices at all..?

PS
Have fun :)

NetHack uses about 4 megs of hard drive space

this installs an icon in my-roxapps
drag the icon to the desktop if you want a shortcut

Wavsplit, wavren for recording radio, albums and cassettes

#173 Post by Bruce B »

Wavsplit cuts wav files into predefined pieces. Very fast and useful when recording radio, albums and cassettes.

This dotpup is the wavsplit utility described in this wiki on recording audio casettes: http://www.goosee.com/puppy/wikka/SoundRecording

It also includes wavren for renaming wav files. Not a lot of features in wavren, but the price is right. :)

File list:
  • /root/my-documents/wavsplitREADME.txt
    /root/my-applications/bin/wavsplit
    /root/my-applications/bin/wavren
[Enjoy!

WISH Supernotepad 1.4 dotpup

How about another text editor? This one looks pretty good.

Read about it and view screenshot at:

Homepage: http://www.geocities.com/pa_mcclamrock/

I'll also test some of his other apps and utilities to see if they are worth making a dotpup.

Enjoy!

Thanks to klhrevolutionist for the recommendation and link.

Anybody else have problems with this dotpup? I have downloaded and installed it, click icoin and nothing. Uninstall it, redownload it, reinstall it, click icon and nothing. Edit: looking little closer, missing library libqt-mt.so.3 I'll try adding that and see if anything else missing. 17mb, hmm guess not.

do you get any error messages if you open an rxvt window and type nethack?

what do you get if you type:
echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH

it should include /usr/lib/qt/lib in the path

if you are using John Murga's Opera-Puppy, i don't think it has Qt support ... the standard Puppy does

klhrevolutionist also reported a problem:
"nethack: error while loading
shared libraries: libqt-mt.so.3: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory"
see:http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=1122

i'm running Puppy 1.0.3 and it seems to have this QT library file:
# ls /usr/lib/qt/lib/
libqt-mt.la libqt-mt.so.3 libqt-mt.so.3.3.4
libqt-mt.so libqt-mt.so.3.3 qt-mt.pc

it's about 7.4 megs (i notice if you strip it, the file is about 1 meg smaller)

nethack seems to run ok on my Puppy anyway

there is a gtk version ... it won't run on Puppy without some extra library files though ... the Qt version doesn't seem to need any extra library files

Ok, I am running Murga's Opera Puppy. No /usr/lib/qt

Wasnt that big of a deal, I just used to like the old Colossal Caves type games and thought this would be along those lines. But thinking about it, this is probably not a text game, though you had my attention when you mentioned it not being a "kill everything in sight" type game.

Guest2, thanks for adv770. Been long time since I've seen any version of Colossal Caves. Are there other linux text games out there?
