I'm really enjoying using Slacko-5.3.3. Very Happy

Seems like...everything I try in Slacko "just works". Cool

And IT LOOKS REALLY GOOD too!
I even have it set up "to save or not to save" the sessions...
Both during the session, and at shut-down/reboot.
[This makes it my new number-1 Puppy]

I'm enjoying the improved speed of this new PC.
[See the screenshot below showing near zero use of 4GB->(3GB in use) RAM and 2.2GHz processor speed (64-bit hardware, 32-bit OS)]
Oops, meant to select a region, but got the whole screen.

Looking forward to being able to do the extra stuff the old PC couldn't do.
e.g.
Multi-session live Puppy DVD-RW. [Now have enough RAM?]
Trying out Boxee. [CPU speed now fast enough?]

I am unsure of if I have tested this final release of Slacko.
I have the tested many of the older ones. 5.3.3 14??? X ?
Thin Slacko and Fat Slacko too.

Could it be me being a typical habitual person. Lupu arrived first and
I am more used to Lupu. Lupu Firefox has all the bookmarks and such.
All the installed programs so to me Slacko is more like a test OS that
one test and then go back to one's main OS.

Maybe Slacko is better? I have no idea I use Lupu so how can I know?

Why do you guys chose Slacko over Lupu? What where disappointing
about Lupu that made you abandon ship? Smile

and now that I have found FatDog why should I care about Lupu
or even care about Slacko? Damn I am a confused Linux user indeed.

Both FatSlacko and ThinSlacko do work on my gear too so most likely
it is just old habit that I have used Lupu for so long that I am used to it. Smile

You have tested THINSlacko 5.3.3, the one with the older Firefox Smile

The underlying structure of that puplet is Slacko-5.3.3, so if that works there is no need to test, however you can do what you want Wink

I will try to download the new alpha. That is confusing to me.

Oh he explain it like this

"This is alpha from the latest woof. I completely rebuilt my woof tree so it's possible I missed something.

It has k3.2.21. It is from the LTS kernel branch which I intend to follow until it reaches EOL.

There are bugfixes and enhancements applied since 5.3.3 but that doesn't mean new bugs haven't been introduced, especially since it's the latest woof."

I'm now happy to say that it is stable again. The defrag seems to have fixed matters. Now all that remains is to re-do the installs of the few things I like using.

I wrote earlier today: -

I'm sad to say that Slacko 5.3.3 has cacked itself on my old Toshiba A200 laptop after months of reliable service, and I can't revive it. I run it from a CD and save on the HDD. I've even tried starting from scratch - copied off the save file and deleted the slacko sfs, and it runs ok first time but fails to save the initial setting (eg hostname etc,) properly at shutdown. It saves something but on restart I have a screen full of caution triangles, the default background is missing and it wants to do the initial setup stuff again. Back to Lupo for the time being. I'll defrag the HDD on XP and try again later.
