Can Puppy Linux see this kind of video stream? Link |
|
See background info further down if you need such *
I want to look at this video.
http://www.tv2.no/play/nyheter/utenriks/derfor-overlevde-16-aaringen-pilen-gjennom-hodet-623046.html
But it says "Stopped" and no explanation. So sure it can be some copyright
issue or me wrong country maybe they only send it to Norway.
So would be cool if any of you using Linux can test if you see it and give
any suggestion how to do it in Puppy or some other Linux like Linux Mint or Ubuntu or whatever. If you can see it what browser and what Linux and
how did you set it up?
*
I trust I can see it in Ms Windows but I don't want to go through all
that trouble with updating Windows and AntiVirus and such that always
happen when I start MsWin. A year ago I had to update Smartphone
and it could not be done using Linux.

That video requires the proprietary Micro$oft 'silverlight' plugin, (the Micro$oft equivalent of Adobe flash player) ...
May be an Linux version ("Moonlight") here
[ BTW that gory news story can be seen in English here and here ]

Here's the Moonlight homepage: http://www.go-mono.com/moonlight/ Moonlight is the Linux implementation of Silverlight.
I believe it only supports Firefox and Chrome at the moment, though.

The harpoon story seems legitimate, but X-ray images can be faked, e.g. ...
http://gizmodo.com/buzz-lightyear/ (Buzz has metal parts which would show up on a real X-ray).

what is this silverlight anyway?
It's so annoying when I click on some video link just to find out that I need to download something to view it
Having to do flash player updates was annoying enough

I see SilverLight as a kind of "boxing in" or paint us into a
corner so we stay with the "Brand Name". Bad behavior
by a too big and greedy company. TV2 Norway should use
less exclusive solutions but why would they care about
1% of the users when all the other 99% have that brand?
okay apart from the 5% that have Apple OS instead.

I just tried the most recent moonlight plugin ( 15Mb ! ) in the most recent FireFox (#12) running in Puppy 525, no joy :¬( , its failure could be some error on my part though.

There could be some problems between the plugin and the more recent versions of Firefox, I don't know. I think the last time I actually tried it was... what, when we were on FF4-6? The main site hasn't really been updated much since then, from appearances.
12? The latest non-beta version of Firefox is 13.01.

nooby,
I tried the moonlight plugin as well, Puppy lucid 5.2, FF 13.0.1, no good.
Maybe in time there will be an update to the moonlight/quicksilver plug-in that will enable the site you linked to?

Thanks for testing. Much appreciated.
That TV channel are commercial. Could they
have made the choice of Silverlight instead of Flash
due to commercial consideration. Sponsored by Ms ?
Why else chose something that particular and odd?
Them wanting to be pioneers or something. Being first
with the latest BlingBling?

There seem to be territorial restrictions too, (but you could get around those with a proxy) ...

Thanks Barkin,
That you see that text and I don't see it may indicate that
you would be able to see it if it had not been copyright
restricted for Norway. I don't have Moonlight so nothing
get shown at all.
No big deal I have so many other things to look at
