Subject description: can someone make a .pet for me

There is an animation software called PAP or plastic animation paper. It is currently for Linux but is distributed as a .tar.gz package. And for some reason i always mess up when i attempt to install them. So i was wondering if some one could take the .tar.gz and convert it into a .pet or even a .sfs, so I could install it easier. I'm running puppy 5.2.8 in the enlightenment desktop.

The link to the website is
http://www.plasticanimationpaper.dk/download4.asp
all help would be appreciated.

judging by the gallery http://www.plasticanimationpaper.dk/gallery.asp?locale= looks like a worthy addition to the puppy pets/sfs.

Why do you need to install it? I just downloaded pap4_0.tar.bz2, extracted it, then ran papconfigure.run, then ran pap.

i.e. It will run from wherever you extract it to.

Hey eagleye31,

no stupidity involved whatsoever...we're all learners as none of us is omniscient.

With linux packages the thing is to differentiate between uncompiled source code, and already compiled binaries. In both cases it always adviseable to read the included README file, ( and usually the INSTALL file).

In this case the readme file has:

Quote:
NOTES

PAP uses the ImageMagick library for some load and save functions.
ImageMagick website: http:// www.imagemagick.org

If you want an already compiled .pet of Imagemagick see this thread.

If you wanted to run Pap from the desktop, you just need to drag the pap binary onto the desktop, then right-click & select Set Icon..., and drag the included papicon onto the popup.

One other thing to be aware of, in regards to already compiled applications. Some, like firefox, skype, and in this case pap, are ready to rum from wherever you extract them to.

Whereas others have been compiled so that they need to be installed in a specific location in the linux file structure. Playing around with puppy you'll soon become familiar with this.

cheers
