How to change Xorg for Xvesa??

#2 Post by gabster »

Love it! But my old laptop would like to have Xvesa instead of Xorg (so it can rotate the display with Xrandr). Help please!

Yeah, when I tried it on my old desktop it slowed to a crawl. Xvesa would have been nice to have.

I hope that newer versions will have the newer vlc 2.01 and Gimp 2.8. :)

Hmm, that is quite strange, because with Grandr that I included in the pup, rotating the display works fine. Can you give more info on what's not working on your end?

I have yet to mess with the new version of VLC. As for GIMP 2.8, it is super hard to bring to puppy. I gave it my best shot. Have yet to see someone else get it under Puppy either. :\

What is it about the new Gimp 2.8 that is so difficult?
If it's a steep list of requirements, perhaps it would be better to make it an sfs?
Does it need gtk3? Is that the trouble?

Yes, its dependency list is off the wall, haha. Over half the dependencies had to be manually moved to their appropriate spot because of the file structure differences. I do not believe Gtk3 was an issue. If I remember correctly, the version of C was all mismatched, which means we will be waiting a long while until it comes around to puppy.

Why do these technologies change every couple of seconds?

Such a bummer, right? I believe shinobar got it running in Precise Beta 2.

My pleasure. And Lucid puppy stopped having Xvesa since 511. For Xvesa servers, check: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=57153
