Broadcom BCM4318 wireless driver

Hi Broomdodger
The error reports in your post seem to indicate that you have a problem with the B43 firmware for your 4318 variant of the Broadcom wifi
Looks like quite old firmware is being loaded....you could try installing the more up to date firmware:
Version 5.100.138 and Version 5.100.143.3
You could see from dmesg in racy or wary which firmware was being loaded.....and you could try copying the firmware from them into 5.3.3....
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Supported_devices shows that b43 should support the 4318....
Hope helps
Cheers

Broomdodger;
Try network wizard, load modules, B43 pcmcia.
Works fine with 4311 bcm .

peebee | The question is more...
Why does it work perfectly in racy530 wary530 wary514 and not slacko533?

I will try your suggestion, B43 pcmcia and report later...
ok... it is later and that worked!
But when I loaded B43 pcmcia, it said it was already loaded,
so I unloaded B43 pcmcia and re-loaded it.
Now it works thru several reboots, installing devx_slacko_5.3.3.sfs and rebooting again.
So why?

There were only 2 options, Legacy or b43 pcmcia.
Don't know if it's wierd behavior of your machine or Slacko.
There's so many (unnecessary) Xorg graphics problems on
my listed laptops with Slacko, that I have no interest in
using or recommending it.

pmount bug |
|
If I mount a data dvd with pmount and then subsequently unmount it then click "refresh" it just kills pmount
If I run pmount in a terminal then the attached error message is generated when the OK box is clicked in the xmessage window advising to remove the dvd
Cheers

Hi Gang,
Slacko 5.3.3-4 >> "puppy pfix=ram" boot iso with confirmed md5.
Opening PPM and searching "acpitool" returns OK.
Hitting *examine deps* goes through a quick "please wait" dialog before reverting to the original PPM window..
The deps install option never shows.
Most other pkgs I've checked seem to be OK.
Anyone know where the holdup might be?

Hi Shinobar- it's line 146 on 5.3.3-4 and no, not as far as I can tell.
Commented or not acpitool continues to fail with no deps install..
I'm guessing the error's a typo in the db file- somewhere..
Then again- Slacko users may not even need the utility..

video bugs and no wifi Slacko 5.3.3 |
|
Gateway ML-3109, 2gb ram, radeon/ati 200m video card.
Realtek 8185 wireless g (last puppy version to support this card was 4.3.1).
Slacko 5.3.3 live cd.
Boots to blank screen.
I can only boot to the Slacko desktop by editing the boot commands as follows:
acpi=off vga=792.
The wireless card is detected, but puppy does not load the correct module a It's trying to use the rtl8180. My card is an 8185, which is not supported by the 8180.
Scans report no wireless networks available with the offensive (but probably necessary) error message about my router or wireless card being turned off.
This is not a new issue with my wireless card, the last Ubuntu to support it is 9.04, the last Debian was Lenny, and Mint just laughs at me. I don't find anything helpful in the forums, or by asking my friend google.
What gives? Wireless functionality is fairly common these days but distros seem to be dropping support for recent vintage hardware. Sure, I could probably spend $20 on a new, supported mini pci wireless card but...I shouldn't have to. Plus that doesn't solve the issue of video support for mainstream, common video cards being abandoned.
Anybody solve the wireless issue yet? Gots to be a lot of people out there with this very common wifi card.

I posted this in a forum question, but maybe important to post it here too:
I use a EEEPC 1101HA . Sound doesn't work under skype (microphone) and after going into hibernating mode, it wakes up with a black screen.

When I boot up, the screen resolution is (I think) 1680x1050. I prefer a lower resolution, so I use xorg wizard to set the display to a lower resolution. It works ok until I re-boot, when the display goes back to the original auto-selected resolution. When working at my preferred resolution, xorg.conf shows the lower resolution. When I re-boot, the xorg.conf file gets re-written, with the unwanted high resolution. So where does the "auto-xorg.conf-writer" get its information, or how do I stop xorg.conf from being re-written at every boot?
(I tried setting the xorg.conf permissions to read-only, but that doesn't prevent the auto-rewrite).
Slacko 5.3.3 frugal on IBM Thinkpad T60p.

Have a look at:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=628999#628999
It should work for black screen after sleep mode.
