Grub Error 15 file not found

#1 Post by maxe »

Hey,

I am short on usb-ports so I wanted puppy to be in sda1/wary53
Universal Instal via frugal then grub into MBR.

I used the menu.lst entry the universal installer suggested.
But i got Error 15 file not found when trying to run that entry.

After a long time of trying myself I went to an IRC help chat.
There they told me the entry should be
root (hd0,0) and NOT rootnoverify (hd0,0)
I was told that rootnoverify does not mount the partition...

Now it works fine.

Did I mess something up or the universal installer?

Welcome to the kennels maxe!

I think the answer to your query is that you done OK. The Universal Installer is not perfect - in fact I would argue it is not universal!

Yes
the universal installer

My menu.lst entries are all like this one:

# Linux bootable partition config begins
title racy53 on /dev/sda3)
root (hd0,2)
kernel /racy53/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 ro vga=normal pdev1=sda3
initrd /racy53/initrd.gz
# Linux bootable partition ends

... and my grub was hand made using grub --help and man grub 8)

Wary 5.3 will boot fine with either term on full or frugal
install.
Was probably some other issue; like typo, or spacing.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs
