edoc. I think that the tuner needs that the right firmware is available and can be loaded. If you run in console dmesg command, I believe you can find the rows how that tuner has been recognized and what happens when the driver has been loaded. There should be also rows about firmware loading and initializing the tuner...or something like that.

All above is just generic...but I got the feeling you need to have right firmware for your tuner available. The hdhomerun_config_gui should show your tuner and there is also option to load the firmware or upgrade it.

I know you are crazy-busy but I have to ask ...

Any chance of a 5x15 with the 3.x kernel?

It seems such is necessary for a bunch of video-related hardware (e.g. Hauppauge, SiliconDust, etc) if one wants to use MythTV and other apps.

We are really comfortable here with the dpup Exprimo series on several laptops and netbooks and I'm not anxious to deal with unhappy users forced into a significant change if avoidable.

OK re. Pemasu -- I do need his input re. the impact on existing apps and hardware compatibility.

I will need & want to upgrade all of the hardware to the same distro and kernel, to simplify maintenance.

If you want a good 3.x kernel, go for either 3.0 or 3.2 - the former is supported by the Linux developers for two years and the latter for 5 years, by both the Ubuntu 12.04 maintainers and the Debian 7 developers.

I use the former in my distro and so far it's perfectly stable - I updated with every bug-fix release and it's awesome - since all minor releases are compatible, the build script I wrote for 3.0.0 works flawlessly even now, with 3.0.31.

Bear in mind that there may be some incompatibilities, because of the Debian packages, as some rely on the "2.6" in the kernel version.
