What is the best way to fix Puppy Manager so that if sees the new Debian folder?

I'm trying the get MythTV running, and likely just creating a giant mess on my computer, but it sure would be easier if I could get to the right files via Puppy Package Manager.

I have used gongetit but it's somewhat obscure as to what it's doing ...

I think this is the one we need:

http://deb-multimedia.org/dists/stable/main/binary-i386/

Quote:

New domain name deb-multimedia.org
You must edit your /etc/apt/sources.list to replaces the old repository name by the new one.
debian-multimedia.org is still here and synchronised with deb-multimedia.org

For squeeze (stable) amd64, armel, i386, ia64, kfreebsd-i386, mipsel, powerpc and sparc packages
add in your /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org squeeze main non-free
or
deb ftp://ftp.deb-multimedia.org squeeze main non-free
or
deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org stable main non-free
or
deb ftp://ftp.deb-multimedia.org stable main non-free

Hi edoc,

The entries that you have listed for the multimedia repository is the new location, and is what I am currently using on my debian-squeeze desktop namely: deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org squeeze main non-free However, to use this repo, you need to install the debian-multimedia-keyring first, which you can get from here where it says: Direct package download: on the web page.

Then, you need to add the multimedia repo. Have a careful look at Barry's help page on HOWTO add (or remove) a package database within PPM if you haven't done so already.

Once you have added the multimedia repo to Puppy Package Manager, note that you will still need to update its (PPM) database. This is important because there have been at least two recent security updates for the keyring, so these update(s) will have to be downloaded and installed before you will finally gain access.

Hope this helps,
Monsie

I have read the Repo text and it appears that one line would have to be added then Puppy Package Manager settings changed to make it one of the 5 Repos displayed.

OK on running the package update - I did that already on the others and it took a very long time.

When I return from a meeting later I may give it a try ... unless I read that someone has built a PET to automate the process - I'm guessing that there are a bunch of Puppy users who need this fix.

Hi edoc,
Regarding GoNGetit - it is a .deb package + dependency downloader - the different fields in the GUI are:

Package - is the package to search for.
Save-Dir - is the directory to save the .deb packages to.
Repository - is the distro repository to search in for the packages.

To use:

Package - mythtv
Save-DIR - /tmp ( downloads will be in a mythtv directory in /tmp)
Repository - ubuntu (as there is a mythtv package in there)

When gongetit has run through and the terminal window has closed
1. Go to /tmp/mythtv > right click on this folder > extract all .debs in folder
2. go into the /tmp/mythtv directory and rename the extraced-debs directory in there to mythtv
3. right click on the renamed mythtv directory and > dir2pet or dir2sfs.
4. thats it - you converted .deb packages + its dependencies to a puppy .pet or .sfs

Please be aware though that converting .debs for /or installing .deb packages in puppy does not guarantee a working puppy package.

Why do this over just using Puppy package manager - because it is easier to uninsall one combined .pet or .sfs as apposed to many individual .deb files one at a time in PPM.

This all looks way over my head.

I am pretty much doomed to create a big mess, waste lots of time, and be right where I started ... if not behind as I may break something that had been working.

Isn't it of value to everyone for the repo list in Puppy Package Manager to be updated?

This change at Debian has been out for a while now.

I havent been much in murga forum lately. Due to other activities.

But...this got me interested. I tested how to add multimedia repos to the PPM.

Install the pet...it add two new repos. Tick them and test if they even works. They should enable multimedia main and multimedia non-free repos. With mythtv...several packages of them...

When downloading from mmd repos...use as download site the multimedia.org choice.
