hi jemimiah are you going to add these forum options to the first post in this forum or at lease the one for The latest iso. I am not teh only onw who thinks its a good idea. also where is the first page for the new 0.22 build i looked for 10 mins and could not find it.
Indexing by hand is no kind of a job for a human. That's what google is for.

The new website is ready - only waiting for me to finish setting it up. That should help.

Saluki 022

#3062 Post by Jim1911 »

Hi jemimiah,

Fresh frugal installation on an ext4 partition with new save file. Most everything is running great, really enjoy the new XFCE. Even the latest NVIDIA driver installed fine.

A few problems:
1. HP 5280 appears to install fine, however, the printer cannot print a test page. The correct printer driver is installed. Please consider updating cups to version 1.4.6 which is used in the latest Slacko and appears to be free of problems. EDIT 2: Printer is working, it turns out that it has to be turned off and rebooted for Saluki to recognize it.
2. Tried to set up extra workspaces, however XFCE Workspace Setting does not work. It accepts input but does nothing. EDIT 1: The problem is that the settings dialogue box fails to note that there is another step to take as stated by:

Hi All,

If you miss SHOUTCast and Last.fm radio, you might want to try Nightingale. Instructions and pet to run it from /mnt/home found here:

After i actualy managed to install the drivers i feel kinda happy. and for the first time i dont now if I dear to test 22 :) i love the way things are woring now, fast and stable. using synergy to switch mouse and keyboard. XBMC is playing full HD from a windows shares. ( that out mounts on startup ) Spotify is pumping music without any problems. Conky making it look cool. I also had this strange feeling that one day not to far in to the future i will install Saluki on the G73 that has an i7. Just because i starting to like this more than Win7. For me that is a compliment. My opinion is that win 7 is a good os on fast machines.

Yet to test if this will pas trough 5.1( dolby digital / DTS ) audio via the HDMI port.

The second problem I have is with Linux in general and not just Saluki. Its the lack of a good / fast image viewer. The fastest yet is Geeqie but that will not load network shares. ( it will find the /mnt/network/share folder but no files or folders on the share ) On local files Geeqie is fast but i still have to wait for the image to load. The other images viewers i have tested is the inbuildt Ristretto, Gpicviwer and Viewnor from Racy. They will use 3 seconds to load a 16mp image file. Filesize aprox 5MB. I find it so strange that windows 7 image viewers has no problem doing this fast and very fast on image viewers like "www.fastpictureviewer.com/ or www.faststone.org" is this because we lack DirectX ?

anyways have fun testing the 22, i have it installed on a flash drive. Just need to dare try it :)
I've added GLiv image viewer to the repo. It should be hardware accelerated. Maybe it'll be faster for large files.

GLiv image viewer was no success, but big thanks for trying :) I did somthing that I promised myself not to do. Testing Picasa. It worked flawlessy and speedy to. But i cannot use it because of googles : "We own your pictures if you use our software policy"

this is in the EULA :
11. Content licence from you

11.2 You agree that this licence includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.

horrible, wish someone could make a picasa clone :)

einar I think this would only apply to photos you upload to the google site. This is one on the major problems with cloud computing.

For photos that are on your local hard drive or dvd, I don't see how they could even see your photos.

Hi all.

Picasa is a very good Photo solution. I want to call attention to that I believe there are 2 Picasa services from Google.
  1. Picasa Web
  2. Picasa app on your PC
I am not sure of which the EULA applies, but from the post, it seems that this may be associated with the desktop app.

In any event, from an operational standpoint, PC photos are merely added to your DB of photos, as I remember. And, I believe your PC photos remain, UNLIESS you designate them for upload.

Is that still true?

Here to help

I know it is not always helpful to say so, but I am not seeing the problem with adding workspaces on my installation. (22, frugal)

Same here not having this problem, workspaces is working fine, another trick is when workspaces is activated Alt+Insert adds a space and Alt+Delete removes spaces.

Test: Saluki-022

#3070 Post by sszindian »

Test: Saluki-022

Load: pfx=ram
Savefile: new

First... I would 'KEEP' the new xfce, overall, it is much nicer to work with than the previous one in 021... (of course that's your call...)

... except for the wallpaper changer configuration which works the way it does... however, you can work around this by first adding the images you desire with the '+' on the menu-window in 'Control Panel'... 'XFCE Desktop Settings'. After you add all the graphics you want and update the list (picture of a piece of paper with the r/h top corner folded slightly), you can eventually get the image you desire by continually clicking back and forth between the 'Single image' and the 'Image list' buttons... takes awhile but you'll get it!

Been downloading, adding, deleting, changing files without any problems for a few days now and 022 is really looking good and appears to be very stable!

Internet (wifi connection) working nice and no doubt, it is faster than 021. My choice is the Seamonkey browser... Midori browser is working much better than before also but Seamonkey is better and has more needed features (at the present.)

From what I see so far, I believe that 022 is about ready for the 'Big Time' release it's certainly up to par on performance with any of the so-called 'Big Named Distros' that is currently available.

One feature that would be very favorable would be an automatic notification of program, system, etc., updates that could be installed similar to the way the bigger-named distro's do it instead of having to up-date the PPM and search for things on your own... maybe someday this will happen?

Conclusion: Very well put together and should please many coming over from the Windoz World and please a bunch of Puppy user's as well.

Hi all
I think the workspaces problem has been around for awhile.

And, the system has a general smoother feel than before.

I would ask if JAVA (either JRE or OpenJDK) could be included in base system vs a PPM addition. I believe were this the case, the problems which have occurred over past years would simply disappear, never to return.

Other than this, all seems well for the initial desktop and system operations.

Thanks @Jemimah!

Thanks, that worked, however, the "XFCE Workspace Setting" box should inform the user of the additional required step of adding the "Workplace Switcher" to the panel or even better automatically perform it when the dialogue box is closed.

prezidekstop air

#3074 Post by Dromeno »

Jemimah, lots of thanks for ZIM, it has become a piece of software which I use daily so i am very glad it is included in Saluki!

something else:

Prezidesktop http://prezi.com/ is a paid-for app, so I can not include a link to it (you can use a free version online), but it is the best presentation making tool I have seen so far.

But it depends on adobe air to work. I love Is it possible to add something to Saluki so that apps with .air extension can be installed? Or is it like with python dependent apps, which all seem to need their own Saluki-finetuned .pet?

Unfortunately stuff that isn't open source is very difficult to get to work with Saluki. Is air working on any puppy that you know of?

hi jemimah

some air apps work on puppy, but need a work-a-round to run, as air itself doesn't install.... there's an example an air app working here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=74468 which you can look at.....
and another air app http://www.mediafire.com/file/a5ncypkkt ... oicing.pet

also the link to the solution, that r1tz gave, when i was trying to get mielophone.air working on puppy....http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=63483

some apps work with different versions of air...... unfortunately each app requires a complete air for itself, so packages are 20mb +
Bionicpup64 built with bionic beaver packages http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=114311
Xenialpup64, built with xenial xerus packages http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=107331

Atm I have a query about the xfce panel settings.

I setup a 2nd panel in saluki at the top with my shortcuts and stuff i like.

what i would like to find is the config file for the setup so i can copy it and have it easily restored if i need to create a new save file etc.

this would be most helpful.

HiDeHo,

It might be better to start a new thread with these links if you feel that they need to be resurrected for discussion.

I don't think it would be a good idea to post questions in this thread in regard to them this late in the game.

I'm personally not interested in any of the older versions I prefer to be at the coalface where all the action is

Maybe even just bookmarking the links would suffice.
I agree about that. my idea is if jemimiah could just add teh current one where each new iso is posted post the link where the forum thread is posted from. How jhard is that. jemimiah posts teh announcment in the thred when shd puts up the iso. wny cant she copy the link and add it to the main page under the iso for eas of use. this is what i wpould prefer as you say we dont really need the old ones just teh current one.

@jemimiah its not hard and would help out the saluki community. as you prefer to only have one thread. Its been sggested others think its a good idea. Appricated a
