PostPosted: Wed 02 May 2012, 17:13    Post subject: Anyone having partition table problems?

As I am not certain if any Puppy, or if so which, might be involved, I've detailed my experience in the User's Sub-Forum:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=624726#624726
This is merely to call attention to it.

Thanks,

The subsystem needs for a Windows/Apple replacement are
  • Exprimo current (needs FirstRUN as a single-screen localization startup)
  • SAMBA (3.6.3 from PPM worked!)
  • JAVA Virtual Machine (JRE/OpenJDK) (JRE 1.31-dpup.pet from PPM worked!))
  • LibreOffice (with desktop intergration - 3.5... from PPM worked!)
Personal application (NOT in PPM, but worked!) need is
  • AngryIP
  • and your muCommander PET.
(should there be any time, please add your muCommander PET to PPM. AngryIP PET, too.)

Applause
  • System preparation for LAN use by you: Addition of /root/Public (great idea and approach).
  • You may want the 'SAMBA Simple Management' to reflect this (see an example below).
Thanks for all that been done in the progression of this distro

Hi Pemasu,
initial post see page 20 this thread

Thanks for that pet.
Using nathan wallpaper and browsing across the «strectched, tile, center...» options causes the original default.jpg to reset to the original default.jpg.
I got better results copying the from-the-pet-109K-sized default.jpg to /usr/share/backgrounds_original and subsequently overwriting the existing 79K default.jpg.
This also works for 1280x1024 resolution.
So I made the attached pet (proposed as .tar.gz file)
Please would you check.
Cheers, Charlie

Hi,
whenever opening a Gtk dialog box to open a file, here get the following message:
Code:
Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve property `GtkTreeView::odd-row-color' of type `GdkColor' from rc file value "((GString*) 0x80d1090)" of type `GString'

this seems happening using whatever applications: planner; viwnior; Ted; etc..
Does this cause eventual unexpected mysfunction?
Any idea to fix it?
Charlie
ps: last edited: this also happens on a fresh dpup-exprimo session

Hello, Charlie6.

This is not an exprimo, a slacko or a wary problem. It may happen in any Puppy.

This happens because the artists who design the gtk themes are not necessarily fluent in GTK commands / procedures. ...But it is nothing dangerous or to worry about..

Merci for your message !
I just be aware and tested that the «Gtk-message ...» does not longer display if changing the Gtk-theme to another one.
This seems occuring only using the Aurora Gtk-theme.
Merci encore!
Charlie

Dpup Exprimo 5.X.3.2.14.2

Dell Plentiun D dual core 3.0ghz 2gb ram geforce 7900gs video card

Downloaded Dpup Exprimo checked m5d sum burned a cd/rw multisession with Pburn
Burned a dvd/rw with burniso2cd at 6x speed

Booted and made changes to desktop icon names, downloaded adobe flash player, removed tempicon sensor-detect from startup, set country at quick setup

From menu>system selected pupsave config personnel storage setup v-2.2
Selected to save to squeezesave.2fs,selected sr0|iso 9660| /dev/sro |optical| atapi : hap422w
Got popup to change setting menu>Utility>pupsave config...This is the same program as menu>system
Selected to check again at shutdown..click OK Store settings and quit..Select Shutdown>Power-off
During shutdown recieved pupsave will be saved to /dev/sr0..then failed to mount /dev/sr0..nothing saved

rebooted and mounted sr0 with ymount and went thru same procedure ...at shutdown I got saved file to /dev/sr0

Rebooted and checked sr0 there is no save file and changes have been deleted

This is happening with both the cd and dvd

Booted Racy-5.2.2 and made changes then save...I got a save file 2012-05-10-02-59
Confirmed the changes remained after reboot Ok

Also tried to save distro to a 16gb pen drive...Cannot do that!!!

A strange thing, the probpart on the Dpup Exprimo 5.X.3.2.14.2 shows the CD twice.
Quote:
#probepart
/dev/sda1|ntfs|204800
/dev/sda2|ntfs|41736192
/dev/sda3|ext3|22302720
/dev/sda4|none|2
/dev/sda5|ext4|21250048
/dev/sr0|iso9660|314440
/dev/sr0|iso9660|314440

I also tried the probepart extracted from the recent woof, and got same result.
I don't know why and when it occures. Anyway I have implemented a countermeasure in the pupsaveconfig.
Try the next test package:
