Puppy Linux on a Sony Vaio doesn't work in battery mode Subject description: no problem when plugged in |
|
Hello,
first of all, I hope you understand my "german" english.
I use puppy linux 5.2 on a Sony Vaio VGN-BX195XP with 2 GB mainmemory. I use a dualboot version with Windows XP. The harddrive works with NTFS.
I like it very well.
But every time I only use the battery mode, puppy is freezing while booting. It had no problem with the harddisk, it stops at about the fifth position of the booting process (I could not look exactly because I'm writing this post with the Vaio). If I use the battery and plugged in it works normally, but if I pull of the plug, it frezzes again. The battery is working well when I use Windows, so it is no power problem.
Does anyone has an explanation for this strange effect?
I want to use my Vaio not only plugged in, it is a notebook!
Thanks for all your help!!
Hans

When i search for that computer i get 100 hits for replacement parts ...
But no details ...
the battery kernel driver is acpi related ...
sony-laptop.ko is a driver that might not be in the initrd.gz ...

Hello,
Try the "acpi=off" code suggestion at boot...

Thank you for your help!
I tried "acpi=off" and now it starts also in battery mode!
Well, I have to live with loosing the battery symbol in this mode, I think?
For more details of the notebook:
It has an Intel Pentium M 750, 1.86 GHz
15,0 XGA X-black LCD monitor
ATI Mobility Radeon X700 256 MB memory
Thank you for all of your working an thinking!
Hans
