I've searched the forum for some helpful advice but did not find anything particular to my issue, so here goes.....

I am doing a Puppy 5.28(5) install to an old computer I don't want to toss.
This computer cannot boot from usb.. that's how old it is.

When finally installed I do not get any video and am prompted to use XorgWizard to install manually the required graphics driver.

In the list, I find what I need; an Intel i810 graphics driver so I select it but Xorgwizard cannot install it.

I get a screen indicating the driver support has been moved to another directory location and I am dumped out to the prompt.
Typing Xwin, I still get no graphics so I am stopped at this point.

The screen message says the driver support is in another directory location.
It has been moved to:

/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers-alternate

The screen message further tells me to copy the driver to:

/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers


Since Xorgwizard will not select from the /drivers-alternate, how do I get the required drivers copied into the correct .../modules/driver directory ?


I fess up I am not very good with the Linux command line.
I try to use what I remember from my Dos days, but ends in frustration.

After Xorgwizard is done NOT installing the i810 that I need, it leaves me out at a command line prompt that looks like this: ---> #

I guess I need to construct a command line structure that does this:

Copy *.*
from
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers-alternate
to
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers

But I-Dont-Know how to construct a linux command line command to do that.

Hopefully by doing this, then Xorgwizard should be able to "find" the correct grahics driver support and install it so I can use this computer.

It's an old computer that I just want to use for holding backup data and / or occasional web-browsing. I'd use that old pc for using FreeNas, but it's too under-powered to do so. So I thought Puppy Linux might allow me to salvage this old computer. Failing getting Puppy to work on it, I might try Damn Small Linux before I toss this pc. But I don't know if I can get DSL to share files across a network. We'll see.
