Thanks Hacao :)

This is a beta and is most similar to Chubby Puppy
It is Puppy 2.02 with integrated Open Office

At the moment it is using Seamonkey, Geany is the default.

Hello Hacao and other Pups,

I downloaded the lastest OfficePuppy 2.02beta and did an upgrade from the Puppy2.02 that I had been using. So far everything works as expected.

The only difference I can see so far is that the default Word Processor and Spreadsheet programs have been updated to bring up the OpenOffice 2.0 components - a great addition to my mixture of useful programs.

The upgrade continued using the previous settings for sound, international keyboard, printing to HP6540 (USB).....

Great job Hacao, and all the other contributors to this latest Community Edition effort.....it will be a well received by new and old users alike.

I did a pristine install before the upgrade, and using Paul's (pakt) printing install procedure for my USB HP6540 printer, it worked flawlessly also.

Puppy Linux ------ onward and upward :)

This is the puppy of my dreams
Though the universal installer doesn't work and exits with a window entitled "Usage for Xdialog".

EDIT eheheh my fault. I was under vmware and my usb device was not mounted on the virtual machine. Now it's OK.

I can't download this iso. I have tried twice yesterday evening and overnight (I'm on UK time if that helps). I was using Opera 9 and both times it failed after less than 5% or so was downloaded. I've never had any problems with Opera before. Will there be an alternative download site?

Everything Hacao does is just too popular! Maybe he could release stuff without telling everybody?

This Puppy is top dog as far as I'm concerned. There is no other distro, I don't think, that has OpenOffice and runs from RAM and is under 200MB. Fantastic.

I was waiting for an OpenOffice Puppy that wasn't chubby and this is it.

Using Office 2.02 CE

#15 Post by Hacao »

Hi !

Most of PCs in the world, installed Windows & Office XP.

Can you using Write, Calc, Impress,... without Windows & Office XP ? (normal user)

Using Office 2.02 CE ! :)

That's a reason, Puppy & Hacao.Office linux 2.01 more popular in Vietnam.

CE 2.02 will release with 2 versions: Standard (70M) and Office (170M) (with localization)

Thanks,

Excellent News :)

Here is a pic you might like or modify as a background
http://puppylinux.org/user/photogallery.php?photo=112
(the existing wheatfield is neutral and fine too)

Others can add backgrounds to the above link site for possible inclusion in future CE versions of Puppy

Other ways you can get involved in CE
Hacao uses this page as the bookmarks/default Puppy browser page. If you can spend a couple of hours to edit or improve a link that would be great . . .
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/CommunityEdition

Is the Puppy Open Office CE beta stable enough to use now?

Yes it is.

Notes

This is great, works out of the box. Maybe what am missing in this release is Hacao's great graphics skills, or it could be that I have not tested it long enough yet.

To the other users: what size of RAM will cause the whole pup_202.sfs to be loaded? I used a 256-MB PC without swap (Compaq with NTFS), and the CD was never ejectable. Same happens with my 128-MB RAM Celeron, but it has 500-MB swap file. :?:

Hacao, please take note of this thread.

Hey Raffy,

I've put the pup_202.sfs file on my hard drive - installed alongside the pup_save-3fs file. I also have 512MB RAM, so I'm not sure if it makes the kind of difference you are looking for with 128MB or 256MB RAM, since I never have a problem ejecting the CD.

Office Puppy 2.02 loads in about 30 seconds on my machine, and I attribute this to have the pup_202.sfs file on the hard drive which loads it faster than from the CD.

I've just upgraded a multisession 2.01 seamonkey to 2.02 office ce - fantastic!
It all works like magic. Boot up from old dvd, save to new, reboot new, get scared thinking its crashed while it updates the file system on the dvd and then its done!

I'm still amazed you can run an operating system off a cd/dvd, but this stuff just blows my mind.

2.02CE Bugs

#20 Post by ecomoney »

Hi tested this out its great! complete offce computer from formatted disk to useable computer in about 20 seconds!!!

Just a few bugs/enhancements.

.odt openoffice files do not have a run action associated with them so they open with openoffice when clicked on in rox.

Seems to mount my FAT32 home directory as read-only. Works fine with Linux Partitions.

Do we have a minimum RAM requirement for loading openoffice into memory? (I have a 1.1 Coppermine Celeron and 650mb RAM)
