Yes, comes up on every reboot. It was still in the /root/startup, removing it prevents the error message, however there is no temp sensor.

Hi,
I was missing a wordprocessor on Exprimo ... so I googled around ...and wanted a tiny and simple wordprocessor ... not longer Abiword; not LibreOffice (too big too elaborate) so back to Ted !
Here tested ted-2.22-i386.deb (basic US locale) + specific french locale ted_fr_FR-2.22.all.deb
download and explanations here
http://www.nllgg.nl/Ted/
other locale are available on that website + conversion scripts (rtf to ps , pdf, html) as translated help files.
I could get the localized desktop for fr_BE doing a symlink called /usr/lib/X11/fr_BR.UTF-8 pointing to the existing /usr/lib/X11/fr_FR
Seems sufficient for daily use and also working nice!
Cheers, Charlie

I've always thought that Ted was a better basic word processor than Abiword. Unfortunately, it won't open an MS Word .doc file and that's a deal-breaker for many people.

I have tried the new version and the last one. It boots OK but when it comes to xorg, the screen turned black and the computer will not respond to any key or mouse operation. I did a reboot with nox and do a manual xorgwizard. Both probe and choose (an intel driver) give the same black dead screen. Xvea runs OK. Also, older version of Exprimo and other puppy derivatives like lupu528 and icepuppy014 work OK right out of the box. Could it be some driver missing?

My PC is an Asus Zenbook UX31E. A lspci give the following.

Have you checked the md5sum of download. That is the first thing when X does not boot.

Yes, the md5sum is correct. And this happened to both 5.X.3.2.11 and 5.X.3.2.14.2.

Hi,
whenever opening a Gtk dialog box to open a file, here get the following message:

Code: Select all

Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve property `GtkTreeView::odd-row-color' of type `GdkColor' from rc file value "((GString*) 0x80d1090)" of type `GString'
this seems happening using whatever applications: planner; viwnior; Ted; etc..
Does this cause eventual unexpected mysfunction?
Any idea to fix it?
Charlie

Hi,
here happened to open a 2MB (might be an A0 size) architectural drawing ... using evince ... and it got frozen. Very slow at the beginning using the default "fit to screen size" setting.
Increasing the zoom size (to about 175%) got evince to slow and at then like frozen ... or being damn awfully slow..!

As I could open that same file on Slacko and read it without difficulty, I installed epdfview-1.8.0-w5 from wary-5 repo. As also the requested dependencies:
libssl.1.0.0 symlink to libssl.0.9.8 these coming fromhttp://packages.ubuntu.com/fi/precise/libssl1.0.0 (thanX Pemasu !)
libcrypto.so.1.0.0 symlink to already present libcrypto.0.9.8
libpoppler.so.13 symlink to already present libpoppler.so.5.0.0

Cheers, Charlie

Hello, Charlie6.

This is not an exprimo, a slacko or a wary problem. It may happen in any Puppy.

This happens because the artists who design the gtk themes are not necessarily fluent in GTK commands / procedures. Also, various versions of GTK-2 are used on different Puppies, so this type of error is frequent.

But it is nothing dangerous or to worry about. The worst thing that can happen is that the GTK theme you chose will not display properly on your screen; it will display probably in grey shades, like the "default" theme, or a little icon will be missing in the window manager frame.

Best regards.

pemasu, I just wrote a simple suspend tool called "frost" (here). I heard AcpiTool has some compatibility issues with Linux 3.x, so I decided to write a tool that suspends the system, since that's the only reason I like it.

Should be pretty useful with the combination of XBindKeys (e.g ALT + Fn + F1 suspends the system) - I remember I discovered AcpiTool thanks to you, so here's my way to thank you :)

Thanks Iguleder. I will definitively test it.
Yeah. Acpitool needs to be patched until it works with 3.X kernels. I use Jemimah`s patched source.

But another suspending tool is always welcome...some ppl have problems with waking up...so...testing new tool is great.

Thanks. :D

Hi Pemasu,
This seems general for all dpup-Exprimo tested till now:
opening rox and doing a drag and drop of a file , there is no dashed border highlighting of the destination dir (as it is the case on other Puppies) before selecting the action (i.e. copy / move / link / ..).

So I am not sure to direct the file to the desired directory, a confusion may occur. I have then to check in the desired directory if the file is well in.

Cheers, Charlie

Thanks charlie6. I have used Barry`s lates ROX-Filer binary in my builds. Not sure if it has something to do with it.

Note to pemasu... Check out my new puppy backup software.
I was able to convert pmirror so that it
can mirror 5 folders now.

I call the application 'Puppy backup 1.4'

When the background picture is black, a black terminal looks strange.

The terminal background color can be change to a dark blue.

Is there something wrong with the screen saver? I can't get it
to work even though it says it's on.

Ndiswrapper

#320 Post by espe »

Being an newbe with puppylinux I try to find the right setup for an old Sony laptop with a PII 400 Mhz but only 128 MB which is the max. I want to run Spotify on it nothing else.

So far Dpup Exprimo is the only one I found were the nativ linux version of Spotify runs. However I miss the ndiswrapper module.
I tried several versions but no success. I reports that the module cannot be found.

Does anyone have a suggestion? To get ndiswrapper running on exprimo or spotify on another puppylinux.

Thanks
espe
