Looks like that theme assumes certain things about the tray appearance that are not correct in Puplite5... and when it doesn't see those things, it aborts, at least for the tray. So the tray is breaking the theme.
The theme consists of three files: a pair of images to display in the theme-chooser ("Choose a JWM theme" w/in the JWM Config Manager), and a single file called "Slate-jwmrc" that only addresses the color of the tray.
A complete theme, this is not.

Figured it out. The second-to-last line in /etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc needs to be commented out and then everything works. That line invokes a file called ".jwmrc-personal". I will post the corrected file later -- real life is calling me at the moment.
EDIT: line 244 in the file, /etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc contains:
Code: | <include>/root/.jwm/jwmrc-personal</include> |
Comment this out and the problem is fixed.
I will make a second post with the altered file.

Here is the "corrected" (=altered) file, which allows the tray to be themed. Just use it to overwrite the original file at /etc/xdg/templates and it will work.
Description |
REMOVE THE ".gz" -- IT'S A TEXT FILE. Replaces the original file at /etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc to allow theming the tray.

Hello, starhawk.
It's a bit abstract like this. Would you have a picture?
Thanks in advance.

Bonjour musher0! (One of maybe five words of French I know... silly American education didn't teach me merde... )
Before the corrected file: the tray looks like the one in sc0ttman's screenshots (First post or first few posts) no matter what JWM/GTK theme is applied.
After the corrected file... well, here's what I did --> http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=620034#620034
One can apply ANY of the JWM themes in the JWM theme thread here OR from the site --> puppylin.freehostia.com/jwm.htm ...which I believe is dejan555's website for this stuff. After the corrected file is applied, ALL JWM themes will work fine, and theme/skin the tray correctly.
As a side note, if the theme does not have a menu-button image inside of it, you'll have to hunt one down or use Puplite's stock menu-button. That's a theme problem, not a Puplite problem.
Let me know if you have further questions.

@ sc0ttmsn
Hi,
I loaded PupLite on a USB stick and am running it on my Dell Mini 1012 netbook. Nice job on this, runs great. I am having a miner wallpaper issue but so far all is well.
I may have to keep this loaded on the stick (dog house? ).
Is there any way to edit the menus so that I can delete all entrees that are are already in the control panel?
Nice job to who-ever made the PuppyCP. Great job, it should be loaded on all pups.

just move the /usr/share/applications/*.desktop files of the apps you dont want listed to another dir, and they will be removed from the menu next time you refresh it... but you can put them back if later if you want...
And radky made the control panel, called PupControl.. The latest versions probably dont work well in Puplite, but there are later versions, if u wanna check them out (1.9 is the latest the MIGHT work): http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=61961

Thanks for the help.
Move the files? OK, I thought it was a text file to edit. I will make a new file in the same dir and see if that works.
I will just hold onto the PuppyCP that it came with untill you get around to makeing a new version of PupLite. I excel at braking things......

Hey, just thought of something.
1. Is there a pup of BaCon that can be downloaded?
2. What would be the best way to install this to an 8GB SD card? I tried Unibootin but it will not load. I plan to run this on my Dell mini.
Thanks for the help -John

Echinus and Puppy 4.2.1 |
|
february 2016, i had this topic bookmarded on a pupsave.
I understand why. What a nice description by scottman.
It's quite a tutorial for all puppies.
I am running a Puppy but i don't know which one.
Icons are strangely grouped on desktop. I use echinus, Window Manager promoted by Musher for christmas . perhaps it's the reason,

downloading - puplite-5.0-k2.6.25.16.iso |
|
downloading - puplite-5.0-k2.6.25.16.iso because this kernel allows me getting wireless connection with my dongle RTL8192CU
Puppies are somewhere like songs. One could prefer listen at Frank Sinatra or The doors than Justin Bieber.
But as my old pick-up is dying, i am remasterizing old classics in virtual ISO with new kernels.
Of course, these classics are burnt yet in a real CD.
It was not so easy to download Puplite 5.0. Mirrors are broken.
But both ISOs are available in scottjarvis repository, so i downloaded them two. link to sscottjarvis (2016 still alive for Puppy classics lovers)

elinks is not a browser ! |

Here we are : puplite installed, first step.
Driver RTL8192CU to connect the WEB wireless so easy. Nice.
Puppy is easy to use, everything to compute at home.... but elinks is not a browser ! It's the first attack against newbies... Get away, stranger, you are not welcome... here it's a Linux World , for geek students, speaking not only English, but the linuxian language that newbie has never heard about.

Hi
Have you compiled a new version?
I think that Akita Linux is much more better, also from scottjarvis, but in the
last year it seems he is not working anymre on it.
If you are interested in "revive" akita i can help you. Try it, will like it.
