How to get Magnet Links to work in Slacko SeaMonkey?

#1 Post by Scooby »

I am trying to get magnet links to work with slacko 531, seamonkey
and transmission

I set the following in about:config in seamonkey

network.protocol-handler.external.magnet true
network.protocol-handler.app.magnet /usr/bin/transmission
network.protocol-handler.expose-all true

network.protocol-handler.app.bittorrent /usr/bin/transmission
network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet true

when i press a magnet link transmission starts but nothing happens

when i check htop I see

transmission magnet:?xt=urn:btih:24fc33e4956612e8a51e09abf5e6c67bd33fe409&dn=The+Pogues+-+The+Very+Best+of+[+Art]&tr=udp://tracker.openbittorr

So it seems a call is made to trasnmission and the magnet link is passed as a parameter but when transmission starts there is no torrent registered

any helpful thoughts?

The version in Slacko is an earlier Transmission, magnets don't work.
You need a later Bit torrent. There is one I tried and used in Slacko but forget its name - it will be in the extra software part of the forum - not in Slacko news or PPM . . . maybe someone will remember or find the link . . .

Magnet Links

Hi,

Here's how i get magnet links to run, have transmission up and running but minimized to tray, when you are at the site of the download left click on the magnet link and keep the button in, the magnet link will now drag. Drag the link over transmission until Transmission activates, once activated drop the magnet link into the transmission window and that's it, hope this helps.

Ellgor's solution is perfect, drag and drop.

However, you can also right click the magnet link on TPB or wherever you get it from, and choos, copy link location. Then go to Transmission and open URL. The open torrent dialogue box comes up with no data in it, just click ok (or add, can't remember) and it will download the torrent file data and then your file.

I wonder if ellgor and p310don is using slacko?

Their answer doesnt seem to work with transmission 1.20 on slacko

However tixati works allthough it doesnt register itself as default handler by itself

But you can copy link location and open it in Tixati

Thank you

Magnet Links

HI again,

You are correct in saying the transmission you have doesn't work, somebody else mentioned this in an earlier post, I would suggest you get an reasonably up to date one (mine is 2.31) and that should solve it for you.

Regards, Ellgor.

transmission-2.51 is needed now, as many sites are completely moving to magnets, it's available here

To setup about:config there is an accurate guide here
  • 1. Fire up Firefox and type about:config in the address bar.
    2. Right click on an entry > New > Boolean
    3. Enter: network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet
    4. Choose False as its value
Replace Firefox with Seamonkey in the above quote.

I installed transmission 2.51 from the same link that micko listed above. It works great in Slacko 5.3.3.

My Transmission is 2.84, later than the suggested versions, it seems. And I use Chromium for my browser. Not sure how to adjust the settings in Chromium, as suggested.

Thank you for this - It works in Seamonkey 2.46 which I have updated from 2.19 of the original iso.

I am using Puppy precise 5.7.1

Link to the torrent comes straight up now in Transmission.

I used to have to copy the link location to the clipboard and the open a new URL in Transmission and it was there to add . This is much easier

Thanks also to 01micko , it seems it came from him originally.

Cheers.

This pet downloaded at exactly 1000K and refused to install Micko ?
Precise 5.7.1 32 bit

So I went here for a later Transmission 2.92-2_all

That seems to have installed
