Connecting a PDA to Lucid 0.52 kernel 2.6.33.2 (i686)

Plugging the PDA into the USB (1.1 I believe) I get :-

This does not allow me to backup or write to the system , although it does look promising . Can anybody help me ? Should I be using some other tools ?
