Rescue disk for puppies. Subject description: How to save your works. |
|
Let us imagine a crash in puppy (mine is installed on hard disk).
More often, the "crash" consists in the lack of grafical services.
No Rox-Filer, no Jwm, no icons and colors, Gray desktop. Mouse only
works by its right key. Upgrading by universal installer from same or
newer puppy gets no advantage. Anybody must re-install by "wipe" and not "upgrade" option, loosing all non backuped works.
It seems possible to repair only slacky 531 by "upgrading" by cd the same broken slacky. Upgrading by cd could be much more useful if where copied on the hard disk not only the boot files but the grafical files also.
Universal installer could become a universal rescue.
Saluti. My apologies to you for my spaghetti-english.

Hi, Spaccafumo.
That won't happen ever to a wise user. Because:
1) As a Puppy user, you always have your Puppy CD to restart your computer, even if, say, a boulder would have crushed your hard drive.
2) A diligent user of ANY OS (not just a Puppy user) will always save the important files in a DIFFERENT location on a DIFFERENT medium (DVDs, 2nd hard drive, remote on-line disk, pen drive, etc.).
That's rule #1 of computing:
"You do something important on your computer? Back it up. Always."
This is worth repeating again and again:
"You do something important on your computer? Back it up. Always."
BFN.
