Hi Pemasu,
I appreciate very much all these Exprimo flavours.
As kernel is later than 2.6.35 and Xorg later than 1.7, the embedded wacom.ko driver is supposed to support all wacom tablets (said in linux wacom project pages).

So here is working a Bamboo tablet MTE-450 USB already connected at Exprimo installation ; this works OOTB as a mouse with "Absolute" equivalent wacom setting
Now unplugging the Bamboo tablet and hot-plugging another tablet - i.i. a Volito one -

The Volito Wacom tablet do not work at all , even after doing

Code: Select all

# depmod
#modprobe wacom
My Volito is well detected: the wavom Volito is reported in both /proc/bus/input/devices and /proc/bus/usb/devices.

I compiled xf86-input-wacom-0.14 to get some extra functionnalities ... but nothing. The tablet should work without it.

I added /etc/udev/rules.d/65-wacom.rules but no result...

So, do you have any more information about some non-supported wacom tablets?
Thanks for answering.
Cheers,
Charlie

EDITED: see above. This is SOLVED: see my next post below! :-)

charlie6. Sorry no...Since the other wacom.ko using tablet works...missing module is not to be expected.
Have you searched with google of your nonworking tablet error infos.
If you get any clues....at least any kind which should be included...I promise to include it.

Only thing I know of...not all tablets are supported by wacom.ko.

Tablets is something I dont have any experience. You seem to be much more experienced with them.

I once compiled xinput calibrator in Dpup Exprimo 3.1.10 thread and the end result is there. I am not sure if it even works. The tester didnt succeed with it to calibrate touchscreen with it.

To charlie6

I have an older Bamboo tablet and it works fine with your
old Lucid puppy package.

Hi,
(following previous post)
Thanks Pemasu and don570 for your posts.

The Volito (bought 2003) tablet now works !

Explanation: booting a new pristine (pfix=ram) Exprimo session with the Volito tablet already connected results in the Volito also working OOTB.

It seems that tablet exchange on an existing squeezesave session will result in the new plugged tablet not working, whatever hotplugging or rebooting after plugging.
This meanwhile depending on the tablet model...!

Surprisingly, hot exchanging of tablet from Volito to Bamboo MTE-450, results in Bamboo (bought 2011) working ...!
But from Bamboo to Volito does not.

Cheers
Charlie

Hi,
edited; using Galculator:
on a desktop PC + extended keyboard ( be-latin1 locale)
+ UTF-8 setting
+ NumLock box checked upon Personnalize Settings step
+ Exprimo 3.2.11 fresh installed (pfix=ram)

results in

The Numlock led is lighting
but
do not get figures nor enter nor other Numpad functions.

To get them, here have only to press the NumLock key to disable it.

Same result on a Dell 620 laptop (full install ans frugal install).

Cheers
Charlie

I do have numlockx binary included and the binary works for me. Firstrun ie countrywizard.qs calls that binary and it should work. I think it will need Shinobar`s input about failure.
Test in console: numlockx off and numlockx on
Does it have effect to disable and enable when you have Galculator open.

Hi Pemasu,
pemasu wrote:...Test in console: numlockx off and numlockx on

initial state: NimLock led is off;
if doing in a console:
1) numlockx on:
NumLock Led is off; all NumPad keys are active in Galculator, as also in the editing of this post.

2) numlockx off:
NumLock Led is even off; only 2,4,6,8 NumPad keys do no display the corresponding figures; but are active as cursor move.

Now if pressing the Numlock key , the Numlock led is on; all NumPad keys are active.

This performed on a fresh pristine (pfix=ram) bootup and Personnal settings set to be-latin1 + fr_BE locale + NumLock and UTF-8 checkboxes checked .

Hope this helps
Cheers
Charlie

I remember that there was a lot numlock debate when Squeeze Dpup was first published. Squeeze was in testing stage at that time. Some other people might remember better and that thread is still there. I might make a look. But I remember there was problems at that time also.

I believe so. It misses the kernel module for this version. I believe that I will continue to the 3.3 kernel so...not sure if it is sensible to compile kernel module for this test version. Of course if someone is interested...and compiles it..
I will upload the updates virtual box sfs to the repo.

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 32&start=2
Available from http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?puppy/opt/

It has kernel modules for 2.6.39(Dpup Exprimo 5.x.14), 3.1.10-dpup and 3.2.11-dpup.
(Detail list of the kernels: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 318#614318)

For other kernels, you need devx and kernel source packages to build the kernel modules.
Type 'virtualbox' on a terminal after loaded the virtualbox-xxx.sfs.

Thank you Shinobar. New Virtualbox sfs has been uploaded to the exprimo repo and it replaces the previous one. Sfs Apps Loader icon picks up the updated version now.

I made a little DAW out of this, and remastered the CD, posting now from the remaster.
Isn't it fun when things just work? :D Made a nice recording, and the main linux
instruments and fx plugins, work as expected.

Is there a recommended .sfs or .pet to install a version of wine?

Thanks for sharing these masterpiece operating systems!

Thanks, looks like many are happy wine users! 8)

edit: this worked out well, I relative-linked a bunch of windows plugins, and
installed a reaper, then recorded to the evil windows partition. Had to resize,
but for such tasks to have so few issues, is quite amazing. Some tight coding
going on in the linux/puppy universe. 8)

Hi,
Here video running on

Code: Select all

Dpup Exprimo, version 5.X.3.2.11 on mer 28 mar 2012

Chip description:
 2.0 VGA compatible controller
Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)
oem: Intel(r)845G/845GL/845GE/845GV Graphics Chip Accelerated VGA BIOS
product: Intel(r)845G/845GL/845GE/845GV Graphics Controller Hardware Version 0.0
X Server: Xorg
Driver used: is
X.Org version: 1.7.7
  dimensions: 1280x1024 pixels (338x270 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes
I noticed that the default bootup video driver used = «is» ... didn't know it ...looks working nice OOTB whit the 82845 Brookdale Chipset.
Digging deep inside /usr/sbin/xorgwizard, I did not finf any exception script for that Brookdale as encountered and needed in Slacko 5.3 and 5.3.1, needed to get Slacko running using that video chip and avoiding black screen or X hang up (reported by a few forum members along Slacko development threads).
Maybe this «is» driver is specific to kernels 3.1.10 and 3.2.11 ?
«is» driver not encountered on Exprimo 5X14 (k2.6.39.4) where I got some black screens at bootup+Xrestart before getting it running on Intel driver?
Nice !
Thanks again
Charlie

report-video is somewhat broken...at least until you run xorgwizard and probe - choose again your needed driver. Then report-video works more reliably.

I dont much trust report-video reports.

Hi,
Imho, Exprimo misses opening and display postscript .ps files
Adding forum member Panzerkopf's gv.gz script into /usr/bin solves this Download here
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... h&id=29609

To read A4 postscript pages, one needs to edit the code as shown below

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh

#Panzerkopf: Using a temporary file instead of pipe.

[ ! $1 ] && exit

ps2pdf -sPAPERSIZE#a4 "$@" /tmp/$$.pdf
epdfview /tmp/$$.pdf
rm -f /tmp/$$.pdf
by adding «-sPAPERSIZE#a4» (whitout the quotes !)

Now it is usefull to edit the produced .ps files as follow to get them full size displayed (i.e. not truncated of about 2cm at the top):
- open the .ps file as text using Geany or any other text editor;
- add a row beginning by «a4» at the top of the code, after the rows beginning by «%%» (all this without the quotes, of course!); and save.

Thanks charlie6. I created rox right click for .ps files to open them with your shown gv ie ps2pdf papersize pipe and .....the right click should pipe the .ps file through gv and open it in evince.
