Hi all, upgraded frugal on amd phenom II quad core w/4Gb DDR3 1600 Ram desktop from 5.3.2.6. Using nouveaux driver for gts250 video card. This pup ROCKS! Installed openbox (cause I likes it), wbar, and conky. Only had to reset background. System saw my bcm4312 wireless and connected to my router automagically. Need to compile new stand alone sensors driver for this Asrock MB. are kernel headers included in devx? (Screenies attached)

What about kernel headers?

Ah yes, I went through my kernel build script as I was having a slight problem with kernel headers, which I fixed, but I didn't bother to build the devx . I'll upload them and post a link later today.
Next version, hopefully RC, will have a new devx.

Anyone game to try a 5.3.1 > 5.3.2.7 upgrade? Of course use a disposable save file.

Hi 01micko,
I'll be happy to try 5.3.1 to 5.3.2.7, but first I will have make a 5.3.1 frugal installation and I'm busy for a couple of days (assuming that is PDQ enough).
My regards

I just happen to have a 531 frugal on this old box.As soon as I reboot I'll let you know how the upgrade goes.
But first, 5.3.2.7 live pfix=ram. Booted straight to the correct 1440x900 resolution. Sound and internet good ootb.

Well, that was interesting.......
Upgraded frugal install from 5.3.1 to 5.3.2.7.. X wouldn't start. Went through xorgwizard several times, no go. Did "rmmod nvidia" to get rid of the old Nvidia driver. Still no X. Rebooted from the prompt and all is looking good. All previously installed apps appear to be working.....but I've got to fix Conky.....

Upgraded the frugal install on the main Athlon XP box from 5.3.2.6 to 5.3.2.7. Much, much smoother.Basically the only thing I noticed is that the desktop icons reverted back to the default instead of minimal..... easy enough fix.

Just for something to do I ran the peacekeeper benchmark on 4 browser
in this new slacko beta, two from the slacko repo and the builtin
seamonkey plus the firefox 11 beta.
Firefox finished last, maybe because it's still beta, likely won't get
much faster on final but it does feel fast

Just a note that the Xarchive program (utility>xarchive archiver) seems to have some plugins missing?
Also rpm is having problems with opening new mageia packages (both mga1 and mga2), not sure if it's because they have moved to using rpm4.9 or not. You can install them, just not open them for viewing and extracting what you want.
downloading 5.3.2.7 now...
also I wonder what the difference really is between running a pae kernel on less than 4gig against a non-pae kernel? is it really worth the gain for the hastle of maintaining both kernels?
On the other hand, how are you handling Timezones (haven't looked yet), as there is a leap second due this year and even the timezone team have decided to split the system into two Timezones directories, one before and one after, main reason seems to be that some countries are using the last second on 30 june, some countries are using the first second of 1 july, and quite a few haven't made up their mind yet. Puppy's default adds timezone into the glibc package rather than being itself an individual package. Current timezone package is 2012b, they got up to 2011n last year but are expecting to be close to 2012z this year because of the leap second. I had considered / am considering building a separate timezone package for everyone on a monthy basis, as one should be suitable for all, what do you think or are you happy to handle it yourself?
regards
scsijon

5.3.2.7 |

Overall 5.3.2.7 is a great, great program mic... From just about a full day of testing, installing .pet's, deleting them, and even a little time to watch a movie, Slacko is right on the money!
Two small problems I encountered:
HTML5 works great for Youtube but... most other places still require a flashplayer to view movies & videos. so I tried to install- flashplayer-10.2.151.49 from the PPM. Not ONE single mirror site (including ibiblio) recognized my request for this download so I ended up getting flashplayer-11 elsewhere.
I believe I mentioned before, I use my computer 100% for my TV access. Upon access to the Discovery Channel, I selected my video to watch, then clicked to 'full-screen' but, full-screen only fills about 2/3 of the monitor, and 2/3 of the TV screen...
The graphics are now 'crystal clear' everywhere I accessed...
Overall I was well pleased at the performance Slacko.
Tomorrow, we test it on the Old T22 IBM Thinkpad. Some of the later puppy's have been doing very well on that old box, even with the latest kernels... we'll see how the latest Slacko does!

testing 5.3.2-7 Subject description: early comments |

Just d/l and burned Slacko 5.3.27 so far , so good, haven't tried everything since its after midnight and my eyes tired. Flash-installer worked perfectly for me, system booted up connected to internet, wired ethernet. Just found that even though I booted pfix=ram, my stored save-file was found and loaded anyway. (from slacko 5.3.2.1 )
Maybe I can try the usb install for grins tomorrow and report again. Here's the video info, I loaded the nv driver when I booted, it works better than nouveau in my computer.

May have stumbled on the cause of black screening/wrong default video detection in current Slacko & Saluki?
Now back on testing with state-of-the art kit, I discover that the native 1440x900 of my brand new AOC led TV/hdmi-monitor is not included in the Quickset list, but is available from the Xorgwizard Probe list. 1440x900 seems to be a common default on very recent small(er) widescreen led (and very late lcd) monitors & dual purpose TVs.
