RetroShare and Tribler Subject description: OpenSource, decentralized, secure, private and uncensored networking tools |

It is weird but these tools are not puppetized yet. I bet these tools will become more important in the near future. Is there anybody willing to make RetroShare & Tribler PETs or SFSes?

I'm generally not a fan of torrents, because they take forever to download anything.
But interesting article about RetroShare and the need for anonymity. Specially, the line that says that you could "be forbidden entry in a country for an innocent line on twitter" speaks volumes.
Couldn't find anything about Tribler. What is it? Do you have an hyperlink?

..But indeed, RetroShare is potentially much more useful than Tribler!

Thanks for the links.
Went to the tribler page and downloaded the ubuntu file.
And here's half an answer to your question: there's no need for anyone here to make a special Tribler package for Puppy, since any *deb file -- including the above -- can be installed as is in any of the "lucid puppy" series.
Anyone has a Puppy solution for RetroShare?
BFN.

retroshare is working for me on lucid puppy.... it needs some qt stuff and libupnp. just use the .deb from the website.... one installed navigate to /usr/bin/ and open a terminal there. type then install the 'not found' deps and their dependencies from the PPM
however tribler is a problem as i think it uses the dreaded python. i've not had any success with it..... maybe jemima can get it working as she's got gourmet working (another python puzzle)

Gourmet Where? |

Jemimah got Gourmet working? Do I understand you correctly? Where is the link?
If so, then this forum needs a Jemul SFS (a tool which emulates Jemimah as virtual programmer on the desktop)...

Can not find a libupnp pet via google or the search function of this forum either ...

hi dromeno
gourmet is available for salukihttp://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=73687
you'll need to enable the ubuntu repos in lucids ppm to find the missing deps.
open the ppm >> click configure >> then make sure all 3 ubuntu and the lucid puppy repos are ticked and the rest unticked. >> then click ok (DON'T press update!!) then exit the ppm entirely..
when you restart the ppm, the ubuntu repos will be enabled, and libupnp and the missing libqt deps will be available. (type libqt into the find bar)

Thanx - RetroShare works |
|
libupnp3_1.6.6-4 did the trick, thanx
BTW - RetroShare portable (windows version) also works (via wine).
will check gourmet and Jemimah's new puplet later... I hope I do not need to switch to another puplet in order to use it, ie that somebody will make it work under the standard lucid puppy eventually
anyway thanks for pointing me at it

RetroShare is safer as portable windows app than puppetized? Subject description: Just some thoughts |
|
Wow. Jemimah is awesome! I hope she will do specto as well http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=43287&sid=511f48268362adbfd2abbd711e0e7e65 since puppy linux does not have a good webmonitor app yet.
But back to RetroShare. I have had the time to play with it a little. The portable windows version of it works under wine and even if the folder with the portable app is in a truecrypt container.
As long as there is no portable linux version of it, as well as an option to share a RetroShare profile between, say, a Linux and a Windows version (like what is possible with firefox/seamonkey/thunderbird) I think it is better to use the portable windows version than the linux deb.
Reasons are that the puppy linux OS encryption is weaker than the one of truecrypt (and thRetroShare folder needs to be in an encrypted environment for the sake of the protection of the gpg keys). And even if the puppy OS encryption would be as stong as truecrypt's then there is the problem that encrypted 2fs or 3fs pupsave files can not be automatically repaired with pfix=fsck or purge (right?). So the 2fs / 3 fs is best used unencrypted, and all sensitive personal stuff (browser, email, chat, and other communication apps, and a bunch of files etc.) in a truecrypt container or something like that. Privacy sensitive progs should be portable and located in a truecrypt container as well.
Please correct me if I am wrong in all this?
