The XMenu Entry Maker though it doesn't have a nice icon adding menu does a better job over all
Well i knew about it, only that i saw no point of two progs to do the same thing that's why i thought of piping output ot /usr/share/applications then entry appears right away on the start menu. Thanks for the welcome though, i have been following puppy for last three years only never signed up.
No worries, I've been here for some time also, I'm currently on my third incarnation, feel a bit like Dr Who

frugal install 013 to ext4 hdd pfix=ram. on same dual p6100 hp laptop. broadcom wifi driver auto-detected via frisbee and connection made without issue.

jemimah

same problem bug as with pemasu's 5x328 logitech usb mouse not detected.

workaround just replugging it will get detected.

will keep testing next few days. thanks

OK... I see default-viewer has been corrected in Saluki-13 !!!!

Glad to see you with one of the latest kernels! We'll try to give it a good test for you over the next several days.

13 was burned with your XFburn... seemed to do a good job and was fast!

Mine is really picky about what port it goes in. There's only one usb port on my machine where it works reliably.

have three here and unplugging it from any and plugging into the next it is detected.

will have to try a different one on boot.
----------

none of the three usb ports work on boot to detect the mouse.

oh well...it's an easy fix.

Before I do my usual frugal install....... Saluki 013 live pfix=ram on a bit newer box.

Sound and internet correct and working on initial boot but booted into an incorrect 1280x1024 resolution. Xorgwizard soon achieved the correct 1440x900 desired.

Full install of 013.
There is a problem with the CPU frequency utility with amd processors,
no options show up on the menu.It works okay for intel but not amd.
I replaced the wcpufreq file in /usr/sbin with the one from slacko and
it's working now.

1/ could you explain why you chose to build a preemptive kernel please?

2/ I'm (with 012) having problems with reinstalling grub (legacy) to mbr after 'another linux' overwrote the box with it's. It says it's done it and it's installed a blank set in the right /boot/grub, but it's not booting there, but still in the overwritten place! I'll have another go after food, if no go will go back to wary and try that out.

Will download 13 am tomorrow.

regards
scsijon

re:grub problem, could fix with wary, however your 012grub doesn't seem to be rewriting the mbr if it's already happened before, but no error messages, even when using a console???, sorry.

Saluki013 looks very nice.
I would think however that makes more sense for custom_builder to be in the base instead of adrv. So starting with the minimum you build what you need.

Also looks like that X dev files are left out of the devx again. Compailing a driver I get:

Code: Select all

configure: error: Package requirements (xorg-server, xproto xvmc fontsproto
                             ) were not met:
No package 'xorg-server' found
No package 'xproto' found
No package 'xvmc' found
No package 'fontsproto' found
Finally, looks like that jwm files in /etc/xdg/templates/ jwm-xdgmenu and .jwmrc is still there.
BTW what IceWM config files are doing in the build?

Jemimah seems to have overlooked this over recent gestations. Liable to put off incomers.

Ditto, the Big-i matter, and probably the USB k/b-mouse, issue. Many folks around here are likely to be box builders or box twiddlers and be AMD users? [Surely no-one actually ceteris paribus, chooses Intel?!]

Another of my AMD boxes (I only build using AMD :) ) Saluki 013 live pfix=ram. Once again, sound and internet good on boot....incorrect 1280x1024 resolution, used Xorgwizard to get 1440x900.

Forgot to mention it earlier in my first test report but Pmount is showing two optical drives however both this box and the quad only have a single drive.

upgrade

#1436 Post by shevan »

Hi to all

How is it right to upgrade my frugal instalation (ext3 partition)?

1. burn iso to cd/usb, then upgrade using universal installer

or

2. just extract iso contents and replace files on partition

How to deal with save file in both situations?

thanks

v.13: Problem with FlashPlayer in Midori? The default version doesn't seem to be compatible with iPlayer nor enable me to play streaming US stations like gotradio.com and wwoz.org? Not immediately apparent how to use the FlashPlayer utitlity in the Control Panel?

Later: yup, tried it on a range of kit, the Midori/FlashPlayer seem to be incompatible.

So I just extract iso and copy/replace over existing

First I try to boot with my pupsave (it give me a message to update or not)
Seems ok, but there is no network (no etch dev -> no kernel module loaded)

I try then with new pupsave- the same network problem.
I'm doing the wrong things?

I will try to boot from usb created with unetbootin.

So far - So fantastic - boots straight to desktop, with working touchpad and everything ready to go.
Setup wifi using frisbee, activated firewall and loaded gatotray - all perfect.
Loaded Opera.sfs and all seems outstanding.
The new go-faster kernel seems very good and everything seems to be recognised.
Overall - just brilliant - insanely fast, luvly puppy.

Regarding flash and midori - does it matter? Opera, QtWeb, Firefox or similar are readily available.
and if I understand correctly, isn't Adobe dropping support for linux (if they ever did support linux)
anyway - and it appears that html5 is now the way to go.

When Jemimah has Saluki where she thinks it should be - we have another task - should she be up for it.
Touch screen support - so we can use Saluki on the new atom powered tablets, or the soon to be affordable used touch-screen laptops.

Alternatively, "Underdog" support would allow Saluki to be "TopDog" sitting on top of AN-other distro.

Anyway - for now - as is, is very good. Many thanks - Ray.
