sfs install messes up the desktop(Sorta Solved)

Set up my desktop the way I like it, but every time I install a sfs, when I reboot the original icons are back and it looks like a mess.

Why do I have to remove unwanted icons from my desktop and reset the wanted ones?

This happens in both dpup485 and slacko5.3.

I make use of Opera.xxx.sfs don't remember which version 11.52 whatever.

So if it is such type of sfs then a compromize would be to use a
version of sfs loader that is less protective I think of member seaside
he has three different such. I prefer the first simple one named
sfs-exec.pet which has a minimum of such redoing of what is there.

But that is also the bad thing. It does not check if you already loaded
same sfs and you have to unload it manually.

But it where the sfs loader that made least impact on desktop that I know of.
And it is easy to install and to uninstall being a pet. But you have to be
your own "Manager" and know what you are doing. But if even I can handle
sfs-exec then so can anybody and everybody too I usually fail with
everything I lay my hands on but succeed with sfs-exec so why not give
it a try and then get angry on me if it is not good enough for you.

I would like to point out that my question was about how the desktop reverts back to default icons every time I load an sfs. I like to have my desktop set up a certain way, which means deleting a few of the default icons which I do not use. Mystified, I am.

I did see something similar in file init in initrd.gz (iirc).

Maybe making these lines a comment will do it?

I assume you are using Puppy as a frugal install with a save file.
After you remove desktop icons, are you saving the changes to the save file? Doing a reboot, with the new changes, and then trying to load SFS files.
What are you using to load SFS files?
What SFS are you trying to load?

The desktop icon layout is saved in /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin. When you have the layout you want save PuppyPin as (for example) myPuppyPin. Then if anything wrecks your icon layout you can restore your selection by copying myPuppyPin as PuppyPin and restarting X server.

Yes, both dpup485 and slacko5.3 are frugal installs, This happens to both distros.

I just loaded the qt_all-4.7.3.sfs and after a reboot the default icons are back and have screwed up the desktop.

Here are two screenshots.... normal and after the sfs install.

I can't figure it out.

I would also like to add that in slacko5.3 the qt sfs install wiped out my seamonkey bookmarks and addons, when I tried to install a vlc sfs in dpup485 my sound was muted.

Here's a "desktop restore" app. It automatically saves the last desktop on shutdown, so you can get it back by clicking after the messed up reboot.
