I am thinking i may upload the zoneminder squashfs for pussy if it may be of use. It is 500plus mb though. Ask and I'll take steps to do it.

That does sound worthwhile as I read elsewhere, and here, that it could solve a number of problems which users have experienced.

It's easy for me to say since it's your knowledge and time that will make it happen! :-)

Ok will do. Revision: Pussy zm squashfs is only 90 mb. It is my zm pupsave for 525 that is 500+ mb. Sometime today i will venture into the land of extreme noise pollution (aka. icafe) and upload zm pussy squashfs,

Put it in the folder that all the other squashfs are in and reboot. Open a browser at localhost/zoneminder
http://puppylinuxstuff.meownplanet.net/ ... e.squashfs 90ish MB
nice if someone who has a known working camera could test it. or create a new squash cow that makes it work

I have Zoneminder 1.24.4 and now the zcowsave.squashfs file

Please bring me up to speed as to what is necessary to run the desired tests.

the zcowsave.squashfs is for use in pussy. It is only for use when the apt-get install of zoneminer is failing for some unknown reason. Or to try and get the zcowsave to work for me to use. So to test it, first need to install pussy then follow my previous post. It is so long ago that i made it that i dont recall if i had previously installed xampp for the apache/mysql/php.

I got zoneminder running on my project desktop (Pentium4 Ubuntu 10.04) but I've been watching the CPU Resources running ZM (or not) bounce up near 100%. Thinking I need a slimmer OS like Pussy.

For the most part I'm stuck right now, trying to research what card and cameras to buy that won't be a mistake

First try or two with pussy on it I couldn't get anywhere. EDIT; From the old desktop if I try startx all I get is a lacy looking pattern across the top of the screen - hard boot to get out of it. On the laptop PentiumR M pussy displays the pussy operating system with user & pass graphic then loads a bunch of other stuff, the desktop just sits there until I hit enter. [endof edit]

This morning I tried pussy on my laptop, very cool! I haven't figured out how to get my Kensington bluetooth trackball to work and I don't have wired internet - I'll try that next time.

I assume the squashfs is all about running pussy off a HD and that begs this question;
Is there a special pussy download - iso for a thumb drive or can I just take the files off the cd?

My zoneminder/pussy is on my SDcard that i grub boot from my internal SSD.
Pussy is just the files extracted from the iso into a folder. The grub code to use is at the pussy thread. Same frugal method i use for all puppys but different grub code required for pussy. So if you made a grub enabled USB flashdrive then frugal installed pussy it would work. Then put the zm squashfs in the folder too. For hardware issues best to ask at the pussy thread.

I am probably missing the obvious but could you post a link to the URL where the pussy version of the Puppy OS may be downloaded, please?

A couple of observations:

1. I cannot find a URL for hotROXpussy - which sounds as though it may be a more-developed or specialized version of pussy.

2. It may be filters or something but I get no results at all when searching for puppy linux pussy or for hotROX pussy - perhaps you need to make the name less-likely to trigger filters - since there are more of them at every level every day. (e.g. Filters at the pc-level, in routers, at DNS-level like opendns.com, at ISP's, etc)

It is a shame to work so hard to create a useful app or OS only to have it rendered, by filters, really difficult for potential users to find.

What about pussinpaws? (A take-off on Puss-in-Boots)

perhaps post in pussy thread. I am thinking i am going to use the webcam app in saluki called ucview to save images to an xampp localhost folder and so dispense with Zoneminder altogether.

Anyone here familiar with Netviewer?

Is is a MS-based app to allow remote access to a DVR with multiple security cameras.

It would be used with something like this:
http://www.zmododirect.com/zmodo-4ch-c ... te-2-5-12/

Or this ...

http://www.woot.com/sale/zmodo-8ch-4cam ... nce-system

I'm looking for a Linux replacement for the app.

No. I'm really just getting into this stuff (linux & security systems) but just wondering if anyone has heard of running audio in addition to cameras.
My plan is to have Zoneminder running at least 4 cameras on the pussy-linux OS. CCTV cameras for motion detection.
But I'd like to find a way to listen in remotely as well. I know ZM doesn't have audio currently and I believe there's extra legal complications in some areas of the world, but the building I'm trying to protect already had a audio surveillance system. It also has door contacts.
So I'm wondering if anyone has any info on combining some or all of these things to just one running computer.
