Iso images and devx are there.

Checksums are there too.

Again there are 2 iso images, 5.3.2.9 (supports up to 4G RAM) and 5.3.2.9p (PAE .. supports up to 64G RAM).

Unfortunately isos have grown 2M due to changes in Seamonkey lib requirements. Sad

Hi Mick,

Manual frugal installation on an ext4 partition on my Dell Inspiron laptop. I used my previous 4fs save file which loaded perfectly (not updated). Everything appears to be working properly including the mesa driver. Rebooted with no save file and everything did fine. Created new 4fs save file with shinobar's latest test pupsaveconfig. Very Happy

Installation on my desktop was unsuccessful, errors on boot as follows: Sad
    Dumping last lines of /tmp/bootinit.log . . .
ls: /lib/keymaps/#n*.gz: No such file or directory
Dumping last lines of kernel log . . .

Loading drivers needed to access disk drives.

Tried it with a new download with same results. Attached is a sys-info report generated with Exprimo which provides desktop hardware info.

Cheers,
Jim

Sub_title: flash drive install

Running new beta from a 4gb flash drive install, formatted ext 4 and I
used grub4dos.
I installed the mesa driver in slickpet, once working I installed the
proprietary nvidia driver.

No problems so far.

EDIT:I used gparted to format the drive ext 4 and set the boot flag.
I used the Puppy Universal Installer to do the install.

EDIT:I had some music playing for an hour or so while I was away from the
computer, I had used SFS-Load on-the-fly to load the vlc sfs and when
I got back I tried to load seamonkey but it wouldn't load, from the
menu or terminal.
I thought I'd reboot and the screen filled up with text, I got a
picture, it was scrolling and then stopped, ctrl-alt-del got a "Slacko
Puppy is now shutting down" message but I ended up holding down the power
button to power off.
I turned on the pc and the flash drive install went right to the
desktop, everything seems normal again.

EDIT: Vlc is still on the menu, when I ran it it loaded but as if for
the first time.
I did another reboot and it went normailly, back at the desktop I clicked on vlc it started in the normal way.
It seems like a one-time event with the screwed up reboot.

Hi Mick

Got the attached warning about union-fs when trying to use sfs-load so chickened out and used the old boot manager instead...

Cheers

Testing on Pentium D machine. Upgraded 5.3.2.4 save to 5.3.2.6 seemingly without problems. Wireless still excellent, will test setting up a new save shortly.

Just noticed that if I click on the 'Visit the Gnumeric website' link on the app's 'About' window it generates an error reading "Could not show link. Operation not supported." Choosing the 'Gnumeric on the Web' link generates an "Operation not supported" error. Browsers installed are Opera (11.62 SFS) and Seamonkey.

How did you install Slacko?
How are you booting?
These errors look like the kind you get, if the boot manager entries, are pointing to the wrong location for the Puppy Slacko files.

I'm clueless as to you lack of boot on the desktop machine, I'm looking into it, more likely a woof issue than union_fs. Please double check menu.lst paths as bigpup seems to suggest.

Billtoo

Now that error is somewhat similar to what was happening with aufs Confused ..the plot thickens!

Peebee

The warning is normal, it's built into sfs_load. So far I haven't had any issues loading libreoffice, kernel source, devx etc. I may ask shinobar to remove the warning.

Jades

That gnumeric failure is due to the lack of the gnome help browser called YELP. As you can imagine it's a bloated gnome app that requires a bunch of useless to puppy dependencies. The gnumeric sources need to be patched by someone smarter than me in C to allow opening the web help in the defaultbrowser.
Also, did your carl9170 issue appear fixed? I added it to the wag-profiles.sh as explained in the other thread.

-

Something a little strange with video and union-fs kernel.. I am forced to disable glx in the xorg.conf otherwise X doesn't start, so the post install scripts for mesa, nvidia and amd(ati) drivers will need to be modified to allow glx to load. Billtoo, you may have noticed this unless you installed mesa (which I reuploaded).

Thanks for reports.

Hello Mick

Made a fresh manual frugal install of slacko-5.3.2.6-SCSI.iso
booted to the desktop without any problems.
Made my choices (keyboard, locale etc) and restarted the xserver, still no problems.

So i rebooted and created a savefile (still no problems)

Once back to the desktop, i set about at getting this thing 'Wobbling' Cool
which as you know entails getting the graphics sorted out.

My usual routine is to drop to a prompt and run xorgwizard (to get a proper xorg.conf file),
this time though, i decided to do it via the menu: Setup > Xorg Video Wizard
The dialogs that followed were a bit of a mess (see images Xorg-Video-Wizard_1.jpg and Xorg-Video-Wizard_2.jpg)

Anyways, i managed to successfully complete the wizard and get a proper xorg.conf file,
so i continued to install both the mesa-7.10.2-s.pet and mesa_DEV-7.10.2-s.pet
followed by a restart of the xserver.

Next i wanted to build the catalyst driver by way of amd-driver-installer-12-1-x86.x86_64.run
so i went to the BootManager to have it load the previously downloaded
    devx_slacko_5.3.2.6.sfs
    kernel_sources-3.1.10-patched_s_4gU.sfs

For some strange reason it totally refused to see the kernel sources file Confused ,
so out of desperation i decided to rename it to kernel_sources-3.1.10-patched.sfs
after which it was immediately seen by the BootManager.

A quick reboot and i was ready to build that catalyst driver,
everything was going along nicely until i went to /lib/modules/fglrx
to run the make_install.sh script and noticed that there was no modules in there.

Then i remembered that one of your earlier devx or kernel source files had a missing (build) link,
so i went to check on that, and noticed there was two broken links in: /lib/modules/3.1.10-slacko_4gU Rolling Eyes (see pic below)
which i fixed by pointing them to: /usr/src/linux

I then had a second go at building the catalyst driver, which this time was successful,
and i was able to continue and get this baby wobbling.

Thanks CatDude Smile

I also tested the wobbling with nvidia driver (built with said dodgy sources Shocked Exclamation ) and nouveau (both work great btw). You may have noticed the abovementioned buglet with glx, ahh but you installed mesa so maybe not.

Thanks for the heads up and I'll find the problem in my kernel build script for the broken links.

Cheers.

menu.lst entry is the same as used in all previous slacko installations.
Code:
title Slacko (sdb5/slacko)
  find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /slacko/initrd.gz
  kernel /slacko/vmlinuz  pmedia=atahd pdev1=sdb5 psubdir=slacko pfix=fsck pdev1=sdb5 #nomodeset pfix=vesa
  initrd /slacko/initrd.gz

I deleted
Code:
#nomodeset pfix=vesa
which I had to use in setting up a previous slacko and it works fine. Sorry that I posted before checking it out thoroughly. This post is from your latest. Embarassed

Cheers,
Jim

Just for fun, I did first attempt to upgrade the install on the Athlon XP box from 5.3.2.4 to 5.3.2.6. I was expecting a conflict between the installed Nvidia driver and "nouveau" from 5.3.2.6 and I got it....... X wouldn't start. Laughing Went ahead and did a fresh install.Much better.

Since is back to beta, I may suggest pTiming 0.8 and Pburn 3.5.0. Both is basically bugfix releases.

You know that's an oversight in the upgrade process. Maybe a kernel change should be detected, then nvidia, ati etc drivers detected if installed and if detected the update aborted splashing a suggestion to boot back into the old version and remove the driver(s). I bet it's doable..

Barry is gonna get sick of my feature requests! ( Laughing . ziggy you're not the only one Smile ).

On the other hand, I have fixed more bugs in woof than requests made so maybe I hold some aces Wink .
