Jemimah
Saluki 012
CD-Live => pupsave (ext3)
Now my azerty keyboard is good.

Used nouveau (Nvidia driver) => unload it and successfully installed but glxgears is slow :
212000 instead of 900000.
FlashPlayer did not run (Midori, nor Opera).

UTF-8 : OK
SFS : Vlc 1.1.13, Gimp 2.7,Skype static 2.1.0.81, Opera.

Everything tested is working well but it's only a quick test.
Thanks for your work.

Nice desktop drive icon implementation.
However, on optical media the unmount box is ejecting the disk but the icon stays on the Desktop. Maybe the eject_cd function of drive_all should also remove the /root/.pup_event/drive_${DRV_NAME} directory since the disk is ejected instead of unmounted (as in traditional puppy).
I'll take a look.

The past few updates have been mainly bugfixes and small enhancements so I would expect upgrading to work. If you have problems, be sure to test with pfix=ram to make sure they weren't caused by the upgrade, though.

Let mw know if the new vlc works well. I'd like to remove the vlc sfs, as it has qt libs packaged inside which might cause problems if you want to install qt.

updating 011 save file to 012

#1205 Post by Marv »

I had another totally uneventful update from the 011 save file to 012. All settings, panel, my font and theme setup survived nicely. In general I update, but where there is some major change I want to catch like the packagemanager improvement from 010? to 011? or so, I save my .opera, fonts, .config, themes, etc. start fresh and remerge them. Not automated but not too much work. I very briefly tested the 'drive icons on desktop' and didn't get the mount/unmount dialog box on doubleclick as I did with deepseas pet and a stripped down version of it w/o themes. That's what made it workable for me in older openbox pups. Didn't really persue it because it's not relevant until singleclick desktop comes to xfce.

Still driving Saluki daily. Thanks.
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

xfce desktop drive icons
volume notifications

012 pristine boot from DVD . . .
those two working OK for me
I like the mount icon but even more being able to have HD's on the desktop
For volume I turned on the master and got a GUI with scroll bar - worked fine.

In earlier Saluki's Transmission was crashing
Today I was able to use Transmission successfully - very happy with that. 8)
The populating of PPM means that a Quickpet or Slickpet is not really needed?

Program requests:
gridwars (probably will need graphic drivers for this but maybe not)

Thanks Jemimah :)

vlc sfs removed, vlc-2.0 media player works well (audio, video, streams). Perhaps vlc 2.0 sfs ?

It's better to keep it a pet as it is a dynamic build. It's more useful to package it separately from qt so there's no confusion and multiple apps can use the same copy of qt.

Code: Select all

rm /root/Desktop/drive_${ONEDRVNAME}.desktop
in eject_cd function works well without any side effects I could see.

Another thing is that you may want to set FD0ICON in /etc/eventmanager to "false" so will not show on the desktop. Luki is for newer machines anyway
BTW I could not find how to you call eventmanager from the control panel or the menu. Can you?

I've just run the latest Saluki as a Lin'N'Win frugal dual boot with Windows on my Intel graphics based laptop.

Looks good. Most things seem to be OK.

1 point.

I don't see any desktop drive icons???

I've uploaded gridwars
many thanks :)
runs like a slug through treacle
Do I need to sort ATI crystal driver now? :?
there was a solution how to but my brain is about as slow as that slug . . .

and now the good news :)
Slacko created a folder
in lost+found - a special directory used by fdisk when correcting errors on your hard disk, apparently :?
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 199#601199
I could not get rid of the contents and folder
and was resorting to using the terminal, still to no avail
Thunar just deleted it (about time) :)

Hi Jemimah

Viewnoir would be handy to have either in the repo or built in.
Same for gatotray-2.pet.

No probs for me - I have them on my hdd - but for a total n00b - very useful.
Would it help if I upload them somewhere?

Otherwise all seems good - very best regards - Ray

Hmm. I've never gotten the floppy icon. I'll turn it off.

I removed the eventmanager from the menus. I think it's mostly confusing and unneeded in saluki.

Viewnoir is in the "common" repo. I can build a new one if it's outdated. Let me know

Gatotray would be no problem, but there are a large number of xfce panel applets that do similar things and might be nicer. Also check out the nifty Psensor applet I just uploaded.

EDIT: Ok, I've uploaded gatotray. :)

We did the FDD discussions many times, perhaps the last time whilst you were away?
M$ & the DellWintel cartel would like you to believe it's obsolete. Far from it - very much alive and kicking. Essential , inter alia, for BIOS recovery/update. Use it daily. Puppy is all about resurrecting kit! The general concensus on this Forum is to leave FD0 IN and displayed. Lob. or Aitch will probably come up with the reference...

for now ill stick to my "little" friend google :)

Best Regards

Einar
