Is it easier to Woof or to remaster? |
|
Just a quick question. What (as a newcomer to this process) is easier to use Woof or the remaster programme built into Puppy Linux?

Woof is for building an .iso from the ground up - the built in remaster tool is for well remastering an already built .iso - there is also Woofy which is a very good remastering application:

Ok, many thanks to both of you for your replies.
I think I will use both of them and see which one I prefer, after all lifes boring if you don't experiment!

Sometimes you have to experiment several times
http://puppylinux.info/topic/getting-started#post-604
Woof2 will take some perseverance
but in the early days of remastering it took a few attempts . . .
Now even a sardine in a can could do it
Remastering is now just setting up your Puppy powered computer
and answering a few questions. It takes time and you may have to do it
twice but it is a great resource/facility
Good Luck

There is also running from multisession CD or DVD, which sorta kinda remasters the Puppy DVD on the fly.

It is worth bearing in mind that building an .iso with woof for the first time will take a few GB of hard drive space and a few hours to download and process all the packages - there is a gui for setting things up kernel version, host repo, distro name version etc - a little knowledge of puppy will be helpful if you want to dig in and make some manual changes along the way.
There is also a woof fork by Iguleder as well to build a slackware pup.

Two corrections:
- Not a fork; it began as a fork, now there's 0% shared code.
- Not a "pup", but a distribution somewhat similar to Puppy.
