I remain totally delighted with 5.3.1
Me too. :)
. . . wait a minute I am using slacko-5.3.2.1-SCSI.iso
- that is the new kernel that Mick is not too happy with?

How is the course going Mick? What are you learning?

Talking of portable apps.
http://portablelinuxapps.org/
Many of them worked in Lucid. Very few in Slacko
(that has been my experience). Shame.

At this point you can make a choice of which drive icons you prefer to keep.

The "new" ones are a feature of techno's jwm_tools and in Slacko they are turned off by default. If you want to keep those ones I'm sure you know how to run desksetup  to remove drive icons (and in distros without desksetup run event manager).

To remove those drive icons, which are simply an extra jwm-tray, there is a configuration file ~/.jwm/JWMRC. Near the top of that file you will likely have DRIVES="1". Change that to DRIVES="", restart jwm and they will disappear. There is a YAD gui for configuration, but it is still a little buggy so there is no menu entry.

There is also a setting for submenus in that file, maybe you are aware?

HTH
Fixed in jwm_param_gui now (and LANGUAGE added)

Seems to be a problem with the PPM 'UMPlayer' (both versions there)

The Stand Alone Version: When activated appears on the screen as it should - When you type a selection in the Youtube Address Bar, the second window opens displaying the files (as it should) but... the 'Thumbnail Graphics' do NOT appear. When you click on a file, the audio works but the video does not!

The Regular Plain sfs Version: When activacted appears on the screen as it should - When you type a selection in the Youtube Address Bar, the second window opens displaying the files (as it should) WITH the Thumbnail Graphics.' When you select a thumbnail file, the video works in the main window (as it should) but... there ISN'T any AUDIO!

Hope I got that right!

>>>---Indian------>
Ok, that's weird. I'm not having an issue with umplayer or smplayer BUT I don't know how on earth I play a youtube vid in it!!! Is that the only problem? Does it play local video ok? DVDs? (does for me). Is it because of the 'vesa' xorg driver?

The other strange thing is that they are both exactly the same compile, just the essential qt4 libs are added to the standalone version.

Fresh manual frugal install of 5.3.2.3 on an old P4 test box. Sound, display and internet all working on initial boot.
But, MtPaint screenshot is non-functional and no error messages when run from terminal. Otherwise, looking good so far.

No other problems so far, working well.

edit: almost forgot, the mtpaint screenshot isn't working, I had to load mtpaint and do the time delayed screenshot from the actions selection on the menu.

You can get a screenshot with the mtpaint that comes with the rc by loading mtpaint and using the time delayed screenshot under the actions selection of the menu.

Thanks for the tip. Still supposed to work when launched from the menu though.

Fresh install on the Athlon XP box. Same problem with the screenshot...same solution.Installed the Nvidia driver...no problems.

No problem here with mtpaint. Works from menu and Print Screen button. :?

Any output running mtpaintsnapshot.sh?

I changed mtpaint because mikeslr had a jpeg bug, with it and gimp. I never came across the bug but thought maybe others had and not reported, could be HW specific.. mikeslr? (pm)

EDIT: ok you guys, go to the first run, aka "Personalize Settings" in the Setup>System menu and turn off UTF-8, I bet it's borking the US locale which is installed by default to get around a different bug. The "C" locale errors will disappear and probably mtpaintsnapshot.sh will work.

No error message when ran from the terminal.

Dialog box appeared to set delay and when "OK" was clicked.... nothing. Tried different delay settings... no difference.Occured on both the P4 and Athlon XP installs.

Yup, that fixed it, report-video-glx and mtpaint screenshot are error-free.

Never ever had this problem before....

Attempted to do my usual pristine, manual, frugal install of 5.3.2.3...on my ntfs formatted harddisk in my HP550 laptop

Downloaded the ISO, opened it successfully, selected the 3 files, copied them to a standard directory that has booted many many times before using grub4dos standard menu.lst....

Rebooted and got 3 * red "pausing" and then a failed to find the 5.3.2.3.sfs file....

I'll try another download of the ISO....
[edit] 2nd download - same result - won't boot... :( [/edit]

Cheers
