PupDial The Dreaded *Line 115200 Warning* Strikes Again.

Edit: This issue was solved by purchasing a new, external dialup modem.

Also, it appears that the line 115200 warning wasn't the significant concern as the same warning appeared with the new modem but didn't hinder the successful use of the modem.

I'm setting up PupDial on a Toshiba 1416-S115, RAM 515MB.
I'm using Lucid Puppy-520 full install on HDD.

I'm getting the dreaded:

*** WARNING! Line "115200"
in /etc/ppp/options may conflict with wvdial!

I checked with provider and verified username and password is correct.
I tried slowing speed of modem.
I tried *Stupid* mode in various combos with *Auto* mode. I thought the *Stupid* mode would work for sure.

Here is what I know so far:

dmesg says:

Found a modem on /dev/ttySL0.
Modem configuration written to /etc/wvdial.conf.

ttySL0<Info>: Speed 460800; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0"

I've found plenty of references in the Forum to this error message, however, I have yet to find a fix for this situation.
Is there any other information you may need to clarify the situation?

From what I understand, 4.3.1 was the last regular Puppy with full dial-up support.
Then, with Lucid, it started to drop off.

You might want to try either Wary or Lucid-525 retro.
The latter is built with the 4.3.1 kernel (2.6.30.5) and full dial-up support.

I have Lupu-520 all dialed in and customized on the HDD. It won't work to use the Lupu-520 Save File with Wary or Lucid-525 retro, Right? Don't the kernels have to be the same for the Save Files to transfer correctly?

PS - I didn't know at the time I setup Lupu-520 that I would be going to a dialup situation.

It might work with Lucid-525 retro.

I use one save file for 4.3.1 and both 4.3.1 retros.
They all have different kernels.

I also use one save file for both Wary 5.1.1 retros
(which BarryK calls "alternate isos")
and Wary 5.1.4.1.
Again, they all have different kernels.

(And just to clarify: Wary also provides full dial-up support.)

I'll cut a Live CD over the weekend.
I've got a Wary 5.2.2 Live CD ready to go.

Can't hurt, I guess, to try applying the Lupu-520 Save File to either one.
The CD/R only can't be hurt. I'll load the Save File from a UBS flash stick.
And, I'll make a second backup of the original Save File before I do anything else.

I get the machine back next Wednesday. I put the system together for a friend who is new to computers and lives out in the boonies. At first, he thot he'd travel into town for wifi but now he'd like to at least get email at home. We'll see.

Remember the 'good ole days' when we'd crank up a dialup and wait for hours for a transmission of maybe 500 words to download? We were amazed by the 'technology' then.

Gosh! It has a Save File as I *saved* it off to a flash drive for safe keeping in case the system got messed up accidentally. Maybe I *saved* the whole system not just the personal files and settings? I'll have to wait til I get the machine and his backup flash stick back to check.

Note: I just checked another machine (an old Dell) I setup last week with a full install of Lupu-520 and, yes, it has a lupusave-xxx.2fs. I can send a screenshot if you'd like to see what I'm calling a *Save File*.
Edit: Correction to the above noted paragraph. Please ignore. Senior moment. The system is on a flash drive. The machine has no HDD.

The answer appears that SmartLink modem drivers are no longer supported.

Looks like the option is to purchase and test an external modem with recent driver configuration.
I'll head to the *hardware* section of the Forum and see what suggestions I can find there for a modem.

I did try your suggestions of Wary 5.2.2 and Lucid Retro 525-2.6.30.5-v4 and I even tried the ole Puppy 4.3.1 (which came the closest). And, I tried various driver downloads from rerwins contribution at the above post which resulted in wiping out the ttySL0 all together.

I'll add an *edit* and, hopefully, a *solved* to this post when I follow through with a new modem install.
I didn't need to fiddle with the Pupsave files as I tried the above Puppies directly from the Live CD.
