Problems with some PUPs |
|
I tried running AngryIP in ICEPUP and SNOWPUP by @Pemasu.
Java was installed, first. Then AngryIP.. It seem to install OK but clicking Menu > Network > AngryIP did not start the application.
Could someone look at this and give an assessment?
Thanks in advance
P.S. Same problem with "IP Monitor".

Nice one, works a treat, really fast, thankyou for this.
gcmartin, sounds as if java isn't installed correctly, try typing " java -version " in the terminal, you should get a message like this.
| Code: | # java -version
java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing)

I don't know why it wouldn't be working in Snowpup but it could be a problem with the experimental kernel is Icepup that's causing you're problem there (just a thought I don't really know) if Java is installed correctly. I have a pet for Beta 5 done just gotta post it up when I get a chance.

Can this JAVA app check for JAVA at PET installation? |
|
Thanks everyone, I'll do some further checks.
Edited:][/b removed as it was an inaccurate statement.
[b]Edited2: I've since found that this problem also existed in prior releases of ICE/SNOW. This is a QuickPET/PPM issue with these 2 distros. The distro author has resolved the JAVA issue "outside of the PPM"
@DPUP5520, I had mentioned this before: (If you see merit, you may want to add). A check of JAVA presence could provide same assistance to anyone using the 2 JAVA PET masterpieces (AngryIP and IPmonitor).- At installation could PET provide a dependency check for JAVA (seems like a lot of PETs do that when installed from PPM)?
Or
- At installation could PET launch a background JAVA test and alert if JAVA missing?
Or
- Differently, at application launch, could the application run an alert if JAVA is missing?
Your tools work fine, when JAVA is present. But, for example, in the case of SNOW/ICE, nothing is showing up on the desktop when menu launched.
ALSO: Could you post the 64bit PET for AngryIP_V5b to here along with the 32bit PET already there. I will test it for you.
All other PUP systems, thus far, do NOT exhibit this problem that I have run into with SNOW/ICE JAVA installation.
Thanks for all advice and Hope this helps.

I will make a 64bit pet tonight or tomorrow and post it here for testing as I don't run any 64bit puppies. I will modify the new pet I have for Beta 5 when I have time and set it so when the program is run it will do a Java check.

On the earlier JAVA issue
I did post the problem on the ICE thread. Others have verified the issue I ran into. Pemasu has indicated a possible resolution. But, this is a strange one indeed. And, he admittedly, has little to no JAVA experience.
If you have seen something like this before, your insights could help.

Missing functionality in AngryIP |
|
Here’s something of interest on using AngryIP. It seems to have a couple of issues where it is different from the Windows version in 2 very important areas..
They are- ability to show MAC address column in results Window
- ability to capture and display the hostname after scanning LAN
See this links for a flow on the problems.
Help if you can.

Sorry for the late reply, I suspect these are feature simply not implemented yet as it is still a beta and all. I tried contacting the developers to no avail.

Thus, there are probably some limitations.
Its still the fastest IP scanner on the market.
Hope this helps
