Just a quick live pfix=ram run on some different hardware. On initial boot was a bit concerned...... booted to a incorrect 1400x1050 desktop with the entire left third of the monitor totally blank. Xorgwizard to the rescue...now have correct 1440x900. Sound and internet working on boot.

I should have included that in my prefer-to-avoid list.
I really would like to find something that works with LibreOffice or Seamonkey or a freestanding Linux Kindle-reader app -- online or offline.
Thanks!

Exprimo 5x13 works fine with my Ati Radeon 3100 Card |
|
Hi pemasu,
I understand that 5x13 is still using the BFS kernel. So that wasn't the problem after all. As I mentioned, although everything worked, including graphics at my highest resolution, when some dialogs were called up, such as Frisbee, the input window or display would have a line or box obscuring the display or field. That doesn't happen running 5x13. So something has changed, but I don't know what. But you've made me a happy camper.(' ')
Regarding a new SMP Exprimo, my vote is "Yes." My understanding is that, unlike PAE --which will only run if you have a dual or multicore system-- SMP will run on a single core system. It just enables your computer to access more RAM, regardless. Frankly, I don't know the down-side.
Regarding Series 3 Kernels, the only one I had a problem with is the 3.1.8 Kernel. Others in the 3.1 series ran fine. I did not test the 3.0.6. The 3.2.2. ran without problems under both an AMD Phenom II X4 920 with ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics and an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ with NVIDIA GeForce 6150LE Graphics.
But as I suggested on the Slacko thread, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=600096#600096 before deciding the next kernel to use it might be best if the devs reach a consensus since wireless and graphics drivers are kernel specific: in the absence of a good reason its wasteful of your time and puppy's space --and confusing to everyone-- to compile and maintain multiple drivers. The exception would be something like: the X kernel was the best for a debian system but didn't work well with one based on slackware, or vice-versa.
See http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=600112#600112 for the kernels tested under Slacko. I didn't experience a problem with any of them.

Last night I reuploaded next test version with some bug fixes. I changed the naming back to squeeze, gconv.modules.cache included and one jmw theme fix.

Mikeslr. Good to hear that radeon works now. About kernels. There will be anyway need to compile extra drivers. You cant use kernel compiled in Slacko in Dpup. The reason. They are gcc version sensitive. If I use Slacko kernel, The kernel module compiling would probably fail. Learnt in 3head dog Lucid Puppy which uses Slacko kernel.
James C. I believe the reason is that there is somewhere in the script calling with name, not with numerical ip address. I remember you had that problem before.

Everything is working fine. Frisbee setup was flawless. Also, was able to set up a wifi connection to a printer.
Cheers,

Frisbee is working perfectly, no problems.
I made a Seamonkey 2.7 pet for Saluki and it works fine in 5x13 too,

/lib/modules/2.6.39/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq
There is k8 governor. So...something else is problem.
You could as first aid load it manually: #modprobe powernow-k8
and check if ppower tray app catch it.

Why didn't I find that?
Calibre looks like what we need.
Any speculation as to the compatibility with Dpup?
