Akita localisation

#1 Post by sc0ttman »

Akita, is a puplet I am making... It has many translations for French, German, Spanish, Russian.

Akita is here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=67811

Here is my preferred translation method: http://bashismal.blogspot.com/2011/10/l ... thout.html

Here are needed translations:

 a script called 'download_progress' that I want to translate: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 269#599269

 I have a script called 'akita_setup' that I need to translate: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 013#599013

 FFConvert 1.2 needs more translations: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=54056

 Defaults-Chooser may be in official Puppies in the future: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=56282

I will post others as I get them... Thanks.

defaults-chooser 0.8 is in Wary/Racy 5.2.2.

Regarding localisation of scripts, Woof now has /usr/share/doc/HOWTO-internationalization.htm -- not in Wary/Racy 5.2.2.

This describes the three techniques employed by Puppy, as well as technosauruses technique -- the latter has been used by L18L and L18L has created an online help page will more details.

localisation of scripts

#3 Post by shinobar »

It is likely that t12s will be our preferred technique for future internationalized scripts in Puppy.
I do not think so.
't12s' is a new face and Puppy local whereas gettext is mature and a majority.
Even we limit our talk on Puppy, most of gtk applications are gettexted.

Think what tool and skill a translator needs.
He needs some tool and need to be used to gettext.
't12s' requires another tool and skill.

L18L says 't12s' is faster than gettext in execution.
But it is not significant because the execution time is dominated by usual code other than messages.
Messaging is not required its speed and never be in numerous loop.

Significance is performance in making translations.
I know 't12s' and its automated translation is nice, but gettext tools like poedit are more productive.

All scripts and gtk apps can be gettexted,
But we cannot switch all apps in Puppy to 't12s'.

Thanks very much rodin.s :) Added to Akita browser-installer..

Also, for anyone ... this would be nice to i18n:
Loc_main="The 'zdrv' or 'zdrive' SFS file contains all the Linux kernel drivers
and modules that are used to detect and support hardware devices.

By default the 'zdrv' contains nearly all kernel modules, except
the most 'exotic' drivers and modules, for rare hardware devices.

You can cut out all the drivers and modules that are not required for
this system. This will speed up boot times and lower RAM requirements.

To make sure your 'zdrv' contains ONLY the drivers and modules that
are required for THIS computer, you should click the '${Loc_yes}' button'.

But make sure you have plugged in any external devices, such as USB
drives, serial input devices, etc, BEFORE you run the 'zdrvcutr'.

Don't worry, your original zdrive SFS file will NOT be deleted.

Run the 'zdrv cutter' now?
(newlines should be left 'as is')

Hi, sc0ttman.

Voilà :-) !
Loc_links_title="Links 2.5, navigateur léger"
(1,7 Mo)"
Loc_qtweb_title="Navigateur QtWeb"
(13 Mo)"
Loc_tor_title="Navigateur TOR"
(29 Mo)"
Enjoy!

Hello, again.

While I'm at it...

I hope I respected the line count and carriage returns correctly. Tell me and I'll change it if not.

Also, I noticed you had no ending quote in your original. I left it as is in the translation, but I gather there should be, in both the source text and the translation?

BFN.
