Yeah I've been meaning to have a look at that.
/usr/bin/flock is part of some other package, can't remember what... its a little CLI thing for something, with the same name as the browser... I removed it from my puppy, as I did not need it, and I also did not like the spurious 'flock' option in Defaults Chooser...

You could alternatively remove flock from the browser options, I bet no one will ever use it, and it may be unmaintained - just an old Firefox with some social networking bells and whistles...
.........

Jemimah, I have i18n'd and improved (since they went into Woof):

- Defaults Chooser,
- Flash-Get (includes fake flash upgrades, flash 7,9,10,11... orig by techno)
- Pup-Advert-Blocker

If you want them let me know..

I'm not using the version from woof (defaults-chooser came packaged with woofy). I'll probably modify it a lot once I know what will be in the saluki repo.

As long as you keep your posts updated, I'll grab them from there.

technicians will refuse to fix
...you some kinda neo-Yankie?!
YOU are the technician. Make your own - always more satisfactory. Although you can often repair moulded-on connectors by slicing them lengthwise with a Stanley, re-soldering, then silicone-rubber seal + wrap with self-amalgamating tape. Only when you take the time to DIY can you be sure of either peace of mind or knowing exactly who to blame!

i figure legislation would be easier. No appliances without removable plugin cables. Simple. problem fixed. Then they'd refuse to stock the cables. Maybe it is a built in safety fuse. The cables go before the innards burn up and take out your house as well?.

That's the problem!
You can buy all the necessary demoutables you desire - cheap, & reuse them. Cut off the moulded-ons. You end up with a very slightly shorter cable. Or open up appliances, remove cable, fit your own. Haven't found one yet that doesn't respond. They often fit the removal screws under labels, rubber stand-off feet, etc. Use your imagination - it's probably better than theirs!
Apologies, Salukians, but the HW is just as important as the SW and upcoming generations seem to have been brainwashed into fake safety strategies and inability to open/fix stuff.

Icon Problem

#667 Post by sszindian »

This happens awhile after using Racy-5.2.2 Not sure it will affect 'Saluki' the same in time but it might be something to look into? Also, the 'Analog Clock' in Pwidgets (2.3.5)just disappears on occasion and doesn't return unless you restart computer or restart X Server? BK Posted a fix-Pet for an icon problem in Racy but it doesn't appear to help these two issues.

Just thought you might like to know?

SaveFile then Shutdown problems with Version 6

#668 Post by mikeslr »

Hi jemimah &all:

4x AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor, ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics.

Saluki V6 esasily booted to desktop. I configured wireless and shut down, running the routine to create a SaveFile. Rebooted and discovered that it was running without a SaveFile. Booted into Lucid and searched my harddrives but could not find Saluki's SaveFile. So I added radeon.modeset=0 to the Grub4dos arguments, as that sometimes works. Rebooted into Saluki, again attempted to create a SaveFile. It didn't.
Booted into Saluki again but this time installed pupsaveconfig-2.0.1 and ran it before shutting down. This created a SaveFile. But, on initial shutdown, and each shutdown thereafter, the computer would hang after removing taskbar. Ctl-Alt-Backspace would enable dropping out of X and would automatically start (restart?) the reboot process, but only if I had remained in X for a minute or two before dropping out of X, or at least 30 seconds once I was out.

Please advise if there is any diagnostic log I could generate to help solve this glitch, and if so how to create such log.

Opps the .desktop file for cups was removed accidentally from the iso. I've attached it - unzip it and put it in /usr/share/applications.

If you want to make those grey icon text boxes on the desktop transparent do this, edit the .gtkrc-2.0 file in the root directory add this line

Code: Select all

include "/root/.gtkrc.mine"
then create a file in /root called .gtkrc.mine and paste this

Code: Select all

style "xfdesktop-icon-view" {
    XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 0
}
widget_class "*XfdesktopIconView*" style "xfdesktop-icon-view"
I personally think those boxes ruin a nice desktop, but to each is own.

Manual frugal installation on ext4 partition on Dell Inspiron Laptop will not boot. Goes to a gray screen.

Menu.lst

Code: Select all

title Puppy Test (sda7/test)
  find --set-root --ignore-floppies /test/initrd.gz
  kernel /test/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=test pfix=fsck
  initrd /test/initrd.gz
Ideas as to how to get it to boot.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim

It may be waiting for a reply to one of the startup questions but not showing you what the question is - you can try hitting Enter a few times and see if anything happens - I've had this sort or problem in the past on my old Thinkpad where it asks for a choice of screen resolution....

Just a suggestion
Cheers

Did you omit the zdrive? The zdrive is required for saluki.

All files contained in the iso were manually copied to the test dir.

If there's no ATAHD file in there

Code: Select all

touch ATAHD
in the terminal in your sda7/test dir.

Thunar's right click menu has a problem with these themes, TerraNova and Aurora, the Aurora compact theme is ok.

The problem is that right clicking a file the menu wont stick, you have to hold the mouse button down and move it onto a menu selection.

I know it is a bit early for software to include but even so . . .

Simple and useful way to save and secure a text file.

FlSynclient problem

#680 Post by heywoodj »

Being a Fluppy fan I had to try out Saluki-007. It's a cheat frugal install on my hp/Compaq nx6325 laptop.
it booted without a hitch, though there were some quick warning statements just before X started.

Xorg seemed happy, Frisbee connected fine, and ALSA seemed to work okay.

But like pemasu said back on Dec. 12 :
pemasu wrote:I have had problems with synaptics touchpad driver. And I have pm`ed with Jemimah with the problem...
In my case, when running FlSynclient to setup my Synaptics touchpad I can adjust everything EXCEPT the calibrations on the "General" tab. As soon as I touch any one of the four "Calibrate" buttons, X crashes and dumps me to the command prompt, forcing me to restart X windows again.

Overall things look real good and I'm looking forward to Saluki's development.

My thanks to Jemimah and everybody else invovled.
