There was a sound problem in Lupu-528 if/when there was a lupusave in use on a Flash Drive [or an internal HDD, but the Lupu was configured to treat it as though on a Flash Drive].

This problem was fixed in Lupu-528.004

1. "GNOME Mplayer has no audio CD disk button only DVD"
I'm running in Lupu-528.004 right now, and my GNOME Mplayer is the same.
I assume that player isn't designed/intended to play audio CD's. Wink

I did have an Audio CD button in that small gap above the three DVD buttons on my prior versions of GNOME Mplayer. That is why I mentioned it being gone. Case in piont Puppy Linux 5.2.8 just minutes before upgrade. . .II was running NOME to Muscan as as I down loaded the upgrade.

I will try down loading the ISO and burn a CD to see if that helps me any.

Sorry for the slightly garbled post above
The difference noted between 5.2.8 and 528.004 Puppy Linux GNOME Mplayer I can see:
Original GNOME Mplayer has 8 options in pop up window under file/disc, the newer version Mplayer dropped it down to 4. Original had Open Audio CD at the top then there was a divider. After the divider there was 6 opening options for DVD from assorted sources (all Good). The later version of GNOME Mplayer dropped the DVD section down to 3. Then after the last divider Open VCD brought up the tail end of the list on both versions of GNOME MPlayer.

Oh as a side note I am downloading the 528.004 full ISO on another system while playing an audio CD in the older version GNOME Mplayer. Surprisingly the sound works fine on that system while booting up original 5.2.8. Only a few of my workstations around the facility have the “no sound” related issue. I hope to have them all running the same version with good result after a good load. F.G.

1. I had found there to be no sound problem in Lupu-526.
Now, I was running a "live" CD-RW with a lupusave on an internal HDD.
But here is the important part:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. I had made a change to the isolinux.cfg file on the ISO used to make the CD-RW...
So that the lupusave on the internal HDD was treated as though it was on a Flash Drive.
So think of it as a lupusave on a Flash Drive.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. By Lupu-528...
A problem with sound had been introduced.
But only IF a lupusave was in use that was held on a Flash Drive.
There would be no sound problem if you were not using a lupusave on a Flash Drive.

4. Lupu-528.004 fixed the above problem.
So now, even if using a lupusave on a Flash Drive...
There will be no sound problem whilst running Lupu-528.004.

I will agree 5.2.8.400 did fix the sound issue. . .
It did introduce several new issues into my systems. one being odd grub boot errors and the GNOME Mplayer loosing its capability to open Audio CDs.

There was the browser issues too, so I went back to 5.2.8. Not an easy process.
My TV media system computer has good sound on 5.2.8, where some of my other work stations have to be manually activated using the ALSA Sound Wizard. I guess that is the price I pay until I find a ISO version that works better for me.

I must say Puppy Linux 5.2.8 has been a real sweet operating system so far.

Hello. Hard to explain in english when you dont understand well the problem in french.
OK sound good with the CD on my computer ACER aspire 3000 ( without USB boot)
I made an USB DD with it and tried to run it on my new computer Medion AKOYA.
All is ok excepted sound. I hear a far sound which demands to exist. Alsamixer shut down just appearing (it's a flash !)
I get installed the alsa pet mentionned above. The result is the same.
Sure i can use different distros, Tell me when you know how to do, so it's works all the time. Merci a lot. Pelo

Does the sound work when you boot from CD?

Sound works with alsa ...24 pet but only for the session
Thanks to this forum there is a progress
But when you reboot you loose the thing
I will test with the CD if result if the same.
Would'nt we black list the original sound card ?
Look at the grammatical formula 'would'nt we' learnt at school, not bad ? If i don't progress in computing, i improve my english, isn't it ?
