I did an manual frugal install to an 8GB fat32 formatted flash drive
and used grub4dos.
Installed some pets and sfs files.
Installed proprietary Nvidia driver.

No problems so far.

EDIT:Pets won't install on this usb flash install once the save file is created, they half install in that the pet starts to install and the nameofpet.backup stays on the screen while the light on the flash drive just keeps flashing.I tried installing a pet and waited several minutes but the drive light just kept flashing.
EDIT:I think the problem is the flash drive itself, Lexar Echo MX

Did a quick manual frugal install of 006....... other than needing to run through xorgwizard to get my 1440x900 resolution all looks good so far.

EDIT: I was able to complie VLC-1.1.13 in 006, first time for that.

Hi Jemimah

Running on my old laptop - looks and feels really nice - snappy.

Just need to work out the best way of loading sfs's on a ram challenged machine.

I know the conventional method is to make a save_file and reboot - but I usually prefer to run live,
(ie - no save_file) then load and unload sfs's on the fly, using JRB's excellent SFS_TCZ-linker.

However, in the past I found it did not play well with XFCEwm based puppies. (not sure why)
Works great with JWM and Openbox, don't recall using it with ICEwm.

Still think XFCE and Thunar is the best choice overall - so versatile and much more keyboard friendly,
especially on a small notebook when traveling without a mouse.

Fantastic stuff - especially the control panel layout - easy to understand and to find things.

Luki 006 is looking good...

I also like the easy setup with the control panel.

If I compare it to Xubuntu's desktop, it still has some way to go, but that's probably not a fair comparison, Xubuntu being almost 10 times bigger.

On my atom box,
(Processor: 4x Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU D525 @ 1.80GHz
Memory: 2057MB),
luki 006 uses 125MB of ram, with only system-info running. That's a bit high for a basically still empty system, compared to other Puppy's. (It's twice Slacko's iddling ram usage on the same box)
But maybe 125MB is incredibly low for a xfce system. IIRC, xfce is normally thought of to need 256mb all for itself.

It was interesting to see the menu and parts of the xfce interface being localized (dutch). I estimate about 30%..

Where I think there's room for improvement:

* Better fonts are needed for my demanding (read: aging ) eyes.

* 006 is certainly not slow, but not as snappy as slacko, imho..

I found the built-in sfs-loader - and added gatotray-2.0.pet - nice.

Now - some sfs testing - nothing too heavy - report later.
