There is one really interesting thread in puppylinux.info forum:
http://puppylinux.info/topic/handy-scri ... w-activity

I have tested the script posted at one stage and I like it. Launch it in console and you get 2 barks when new post has been posted in puppylinux.info and/or murga-forum. It also tells in which forum the post has been posted. Nice barking during the evening.

Fresh manual frugal install of Exprimo 5.X.11 .....everything working well and no problems. Well, GetFlash doesn't work here but I just install it manually so no big deal. :)

James C. Thanks once again of your report. Could you launch the flash downloader in console: getflash
If it does not work for you ( it worked for me ), there should be a reason for the misbehavior. The console launching should show it. You could post if you can find something to post....

pwidgets analog clock?

#1526 Post by davids45 »

G'day pemasu,

Just installed a Frugal and a Full of 5x11 on my desktop. My Radion card has a slight problem with the radeon driver so I will need to install the proprietary ATI driver to see the shutting down messages. Everything else displays very sharply and quickly.

All software I have tried runs very well for me on 5x11 except ..... and I don't want to start an argument across the Gulf of Bothnia between you and zigbert.... pwidgets. I cannot get the analog clock to display - I just get a blank space. I've tried several pwidgets version but they all have no "real" clock with Exprimo.

Being old-fashioned (and old :( ), I prefer a clock with hands. Is there a fix so I can know the time on 5x11?

Thanks,

David S.

This is easy if you are satisfied with xonclock. Pwidgets uses about same skins and they are included. You just need some manual tweaking.

Install the attached pet, The clock should pops up in top right, drag it to the desired location. I dont know how to place it some other location than top-right - bottom-right etc.. or how to make it remember its location. If someone knows, he could post edited script from /root/Startup/xonclock.

Relevant link:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 964#582964

If someone wants to remove it from autostarting, delete/move the /root/Startup/xonclock script.

EDIT. Pwidgets uses xonclock also so...using pwidgets and standalone xonclock might have interesting effects.

EDIT2. Pwidgets-2.4.0 shows clock on my laptop. So it must be something hw spesific.

Now I know the time!!!!

#1530 Post by davids45 »

G'day pemasu,

I ran your xonclock pet and got a clock immediately.
I then re-set pwidgets and it too gave me the analog clock I was wanting. Even a choice of faces.
Thank you.

An unrelated problem (began before I ran xonclock):
While recovering from mowing the lawn (summer Sunday afternoon chore), I found I could not install any wine pet. I tried several different wine versions (green_dome's pets which have always worked in other Pups), also a pet of my own which includes the several Windows programs I use as well as the wine package to run them. I then tried the somewhat old wine pet offered from within Exprimo download packages and still got the error box with the red and white cross icon and:

"Error, package wine [gives details of the wine I'm trying].pet failed to install."

Anything I should be doing or looking for?

David S.

Another useful way to see what goes wrong:
petget /root/Downloads/wine-1.3.34-i486_v1.pet
FLAGNODIRECT=1
Generating /root/.icewm/menu...
wine: created the configuration directory '/root/.wine'
Generating /root/.jwmrc...
err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"winemp3.acm": libmpg123.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Okay wine whines after libmpg > menu > setup > PPM > libmpg from squeeze repo > libmpg123-0_1.12.1-3_i386.deb > install it and then another try ( i did uninstall the wine first from the first trial. ) and I had some gecko engine through wine first installation when it suggested to download it, so I had also it before next trial:

petget /root/Downloads/wine-1.3.34-i486_v1.pet

FLAGNODIRECT=1
Generating /root/.icewm/menu...
Generating /root/.jwmrc...
DLPKG_BASE=wine-1.3.34-i486_v1.pet
DLPKG_NAME=wine-1.3.34-i486_v1
DB_ENTRY=wine-1.3.34-i486_v1|wine|1.3.34-i486_v1||Utility|111604K|pet_packages-4|wine-1.3.34-i486_v1.pet||Wine Windows Program Loader|puppy|4|official|
db_pkg_name=wine-1.3.34-i486_v1
/usr/local/petget/i18n_head: line 40: 18664 Terminated LANG=$LANG_USER gtkdialog-splash -close never -fontsize "large" -icon "gtk-info" --placement center -bg orange -text "$@"
Generating /root/.icewm/menu...
Generating /root/.jwmrc...
EXIT="OK"
/usr/sbin/petget: line 329: 20641 Terminated LANG=$LANG_USER gtkdialog-splash -close never -fontsize "large" -icon "gtk-info" --placement center -bg orange -text "$@"

And now I have whole set of wine menu entries in Utilility ( for which I dont do anything, lol )

So....install libmpg123-0_1.12.1-3_i386.deb and try the wine installation again.

Thanks stu90. Flasher script works great. Something different to offer in next dpup. Thank you. And good to see you back with yad gui work. Highly appreciated. I will package it with menu entry and make installable pet of it.

Hi pemasu

Found this old .pet, first tried it in Racy... it worked!that was with a Seamonky Browser. Figured I'd try it in Luci with an Iron Browser... it workes great there too, so I just up-graded Exprimo to 5.X.11 (and that went well) so I installed the googletalk-ff.pet (below) and it also works just fine in Exprimo using an Iron Browser. Should work with most other browsers, others will have to check and report. Originally it was written for FoxFire Browser but in these cases, it doesn't seem to matter. Might be a good one for the PPM?

If you have a gmail account for your email, you have a feature in there called 'Call Phone' (if I remember right, you have to signup for the feature even though it's free)

if you go to:

http://tinyurl.com/8479cqm

Download the .pet file:

googletalk-ff.pet

Install it in Luci-5.2.9

You have free live talk from your computer microphone to any local and long-distance phone number in the U.S. and Canada.

This works for U.S. gmail accounts, how it will work for other parts of the world, you'll have to check that out for yourself.

NOTE: When dialing... a '1' is required for long-distance numbers and the 'area-code' seems to be required for all calls, even local.

It appears we were both posting at the same time and mine got placed in yours... bummer. But if you don't mind I don't mind if you keep it there so long as users can benefit from it.
