Nice clean look.

About the only other thing I'd have done is add a few 'alfa'/filter optionsº in your 'bar, lose the labels on the driveicons (popups work for me)/tone down the unmounted driveicons (p42 deepthought had a lovely phantom 'look' to those) .. and maybe a bare cpu graph conky for a heartbeat monitor (but that's just me  )

Gray did a vbar variation on one of the boxpups awhile back that was a different approach to the roxpin/driveicon deal

º such as -balfa 0 -falfa 20 -filter 2 -fc 0x22424242 (quite subtle but hovers up nice if you can also use -nofonts)

Here's a screeny of my work; I'm currently working on a new-style puplet with cwm, wbar, Conky and other goodies. It features dozens of useful console applications, such as cmus (in the screeny).

The wallpaper is Dark Denim from Subtle Patterns. The patterns there freely distributable and awesome as tiled wallpapers. I attached a PET package of my favorites :)

The wbar background was taken from Cairo Dock, its big brother.

The GTK theme is the best there is - Raleigh

Figured it'd be interesting to post multiple setups of my rig as I slowly tune it the way I want it. Here is the vanilla version if you will.

Basic LHP 5.14 Install with only drivers loaded and the background changed.
I'll post as I change it. See what everyone thinks along each step of the way. :)

newbie desktop

#1791 Post by b_schear »

Hey Puppy Linux folks,

Been playing with Linux for a little bit now and really enjoy it. Went from Ubuntu to Puppy and can say I'm positive I'ma stick with Puppy and learn as much as I can. Here is my first Puppy desktop running on a Dell Latitude D830, full install. Looks like I need to learn some Conky eh?

Nope, that's a tiny launcher interface I've written for a minimalistiv Desktop Environment called veRTix (which is also the name of an experimental distro I have started to wor on some time ago).
The earth "icon" to the bottom right is a Navig8or widget with an experimental drag and drop eventbox, which only returns the path of the file you dropped onto it right now (in the future, it's upposed to be able to handle a file as it's beingtold in the navig8or config script).

My Puppy is just past the standard Slacko-531, with a few themes and Pwidgets added. (While the slickly modified Conky setups in this thread do look great, I like the simple right angles and somewhat utilitarian setup Pwidgets "ships" with, and JWM lets me keyboard around my menus and windows as I please.) Otherwise, I do run Trinity, but mainly to get KRename- which I very nearly worship as a god- up and running. (You can even set it to a right-click action for ROX- it's great!) JWM & ROX remain my desktop environment, though; the KDE stuff just kinda lazes around in the back of the shop until I need it. Used Qtconfig to try and get the QT4 apps to look somewhat like my GTK theme, and LXterminal's faux-transparency looks neat.

Mucked about with the JWM menu a bit, too. Now it has entries for some Trinity/KDE3 apps, and a menu to open a few of my personal and system directories with ROX, complete with my own little asterisk icon.

Small(er) thumbnails displayed, with full-sized screenshots linked. 1280x1024 pixels for my "topdog," and 1680x1050 for my "lapdog."

The wallpaper for topdog I found on Wikipedia a while ago, and is evidently a photo from aerodynamic tests of a US space shuttle model. For my lapdog, though, I'm not sure if I remember where I found that particular picture of Earth from orbit.

The "rimshot" shortcut with the duct tape icon is what I use to be a pest. It launches a script that randomly selects from a set of rimshot recordings and plays them with Mplayer. Handy if you're surrounded by wiseguys and want in on the action, but just can't quite think of anything witty enough. 8)

GTK+ theme is Raleigh, desktop background is Carbon fibre v2, icons are Clarity and the font is Terminus.

My desktop consists of a home-made cwm port, Conky, wbar, a modded stalonetray and rxvt-unicode.

Image

Image

It's the default of my new puplet. It features many console applications, all integrated into it - no boundary between graphical and console applications. 8)

In the first screeny, that small black patch on top of my music player (cmus) is gRun, my preferred launcher. I just do the ALT + F2 (xbindkeys rules!) and type "imlib2_grab <file>" to capture a screeny, but it's too fast, so the screen is captured before the window disappears from the buffer

Under /usr/share/fonts/terminus, then I added that path to /etc/fonts/fonts.conf :)

By the way - the included browsers are Links (text only) and NetSurf.
