How about a Netsurf 2.8 .pet?

#1 Post by Jades »

The NetSurf developers have just announced the release of version 2.8 of the NetSurf browser (http://www.netsurf-browser.org/). The last few months have seen them do quite a lot of work related to the Linux version so it'd be great if someone could produce a pet of it to replace the elderly (by NetSurf standards) test build that 01micko did last year.

If possible, can it be produced so that it's compatible with older processors such as the K6, as those systems will get the most benefit from NetSurf's very low system requirements compared to those for more advanced browsers such as Firefox. It'd also be great if the one pet can be installed on Lupu, Slack and Wary although I may be being a bit greedy there. ;-)

The source for NetSurf 2.8 can be downloaded from http://www.netsurf-browser.org/downloads/gtk/ - you can also download the latest up-to-the-minute development source from there but NetSurf is a rapidly moving target so the release version should be the mainstream version for Puppy as development builds can often be unstable.

Build instructions are at http://source.netsurf-browser.org/trunk ... ILDING-GTK

I'd be delighted if someone could bring NetSurf on Puppy up to date. Sadly I don't have the skills to do it myself.

Found time for 2nd try with TXZ_PUP.

Code: Select all

# netsurf
netsurf: /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2: no version information available (required by netsurf)
netsurf: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.7' not found (required by netsurf)
NetSurf was installed by the use of pet2slack.
Used TXZ_pup's dependency checker and came up clean?

netsurf: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.7' not found (required by netsurf)
that means it wont work even if you have the dependencies
it has to be recompiled on TXZ pup against another GLIBC version it is unforgiving when mis matched
this means apps compiled with GLIBC_2.7 can not be used on txz pup
they have to be compiled on txz pup to work correctly

Ill put it on the to do list

Sincere apologies for the delayed response, had a lot on recently. I'm getting the same error as harii4 on Lupu 528. Checked dependencies and got the following report:-

Code: Select all

File /usr/local/bin/netsurf has these missing library files:
 libssl.so.1.0.0 libcrypto.so.1.0.0
However doing a search in pfind shows (see screenshot) that there are some files of that name on my system so I'm a little confused.

Apparently there /are/ copies of these libraries...
