There's a new version of openbox window manager 3.5

http://openbox.org/wiki/Openbox:Download
New alt-tab dialog shows windows in a vertical list.
Improved Xinerama support.
Allow icons in menus.
Theme options for prompt dialogs (osd.button.unpressed.*, osd.button.pressed.*, osd.button.focused.*)
Addresses bug #4877, #4596, #4617, #4752, #4663, #4662, #4586, #2319, #4341, #4519, #4543, #4503, #4355, #4072, #3702, #4284
Lots of additional bug fixes and performance improvements

it would be good to include this in puppy

Hey, An openbox pet. I'll probably give it a try since I'm not very impressed with jwm in Slacko.

Thanks for the .pet PuppyLuvr! I can't wait to give this a trial run in one of my newer Puppy installs here! Woohoo!! And icons in the menus sounds interesting to say the least! :D

Thanks again for your contributions - and to Magerlab for having brought this to everyone's attention as well. Way to go Magerlab! 8)

Myself, I've always loved using the simplicity of either LX or FBpanel & Openbox - or for that real minimalistic feel - just the plain Openbox session itself due to it being so low and non-demanding upon my computers resources. That's when Puppy TRULY flies like a nuclear-powered rocket!

Cheers/Amicalement,

I use openbox as mmy main window manager since i found it some 4 years ago i think.. jwm and icewm are also good but openbox is more stable and serves wery well:)

as fo icons in menu - i haven't tried this yet. It's supposed to add a path to icon to each menu entry manually, so some script is needed to add all icons :)

The .pet posted here will need the patch to build a menu using fixmenus and obconf. I will see if I can find them on my cluttered har drive :)
Meantime, if anybody wants to try Openbox/Fbpanel in Slacko, there is a pre-configured build available from the package manager, which patches menu building etc and includes obconf.

OK, here is the patch for fixmenus. Just install and run fixmenus in terminal to build an Openbox menu. No icons though, sorry :)
Obconf is proving more tricky due to missing libs.... on it.

OB runs just fine, its obconf that does not. Not sure it is even part of your .pet? It is normally a secondary install.

I downloaded pemasu's openbox pet which has obconf included and
installed that. Then I compiled and installed the openbox-3.5.0.tar.gz
It's working fine in wary 52190.

Here is obconf, the configuration GUI for Openbox, and the lib pack for Slacko.

No, the menu in the pic is MyGtkmenu. Openbox needs to be compiled with Imlib2, see here http://en.ogmaciel.com/icons-on-menus-for-openbox/ which this is not, so the tag does not work.

Ah, ok. Well compiling with imlib2 would definitely suit using tint2 as the panel. Interesting...

Anyways.. is there any pressing need to update? I'm not including tint2 in Slacko (though it is in the salix or slacky repo)

Not sure.. dragging windows around, 3.5 seems to update the display seamlessly, whereas in previous versions I was poor BUT running around 5 deg hotter.
