Touchpad tap problen.

#1261 Post by irishrm »

To revert back to some of my previous posts in this thread relating to a tap problem for which pemasu provided a work around I have done some more research on the subject.

I have found the source of the problem.

The solution I have found requires the following:

Open /etc/x11/xorg.conf as text.
Find the line: Option "MaxTapTime" "0" and replace "0" with "220".
Restart x or reboot.

This is an ongoing problem with every puppy I download and install so hopefully this solution might help somebody having a similar problem.

Hi pemasu,
I have just been checking out Barry's latest Racy and it has the same problem that I reported earlier. I moved Racy to a partition that had less than 6 sfs files and discovered that the Bootmanager works. Apparantly, Barry has included some change that prevents Bootmanager from making selections if there are more than 6 sfs files available on the partition.

Cheers,
Jim

Hmm....There might be restriction but it surely is not restricted to the 6 sfs. I have about 50 sfs in /mnt/home and Bootmanager works.

Hi pemasu,
I copied my frugal installatio to a partition that had less than 6 sfs files and discovered that the Bootmanager works fine just as it did with Racy.

The problem may be hardware related conflict that's inserted by the latest Woof since it doesn't affect your installation.

Cheers,
Jim

I have now tested latest Racy Puppy. It works quite good. b43 firmware loading seems to have some problem. Does not concern me, but it would need to be fixed if I am going to use 3.07 kernel. For me....only problem but quite important one, is that touchpad lacks precision. I can adjust MinSpeed to make movements like I want, but the accuracy is awkward. Trying to click small close icons (X), it really is difficult.

The difference to the Exprimo is big. I have nice touchpad control in Exprimo.

So...when I have time, I start to compile and test 3.07 kernel. Unionfs seems to work. Shinobar has updated sfs_load to use unionfs. I just cant live without sfs_load. I use it all the time. So...I dont see any stoppable obstacles why not upgrade to the 3.07 kernel. I suppose latest woof ( I have downloaded it already) supports 3.x kernels and unionfs.

pemasu - got some news for you.

First of all, I'm uploading a new dpup repository that has heaps of packages, including stuff like udev or Bash. I'm going to overwrite all the packages here and put the sources in my sources repo.

The new repo consists of 160 new source packages, which result in the amazing number 312 packages. All were built automatically, of course :)

The repository has all Guy Dog's packages (incl. Openbox, wbar, etc') and many additions. My goal is to have all the packages we use from the "common" repo in this one, because they're smaller, more modern (e.g udev, Bash, etc' are much newer) and were built on dpup.

And the second news I have is the kernel - I'm currently working on getting 3.1 ready, so we can use 3.1.1 when it's out. I'm totally against early adoption of .0 kernels, so if we get the build script working nicely now, 3.1.1 will require zero work. :)

Vow Iguleder. That makes me think twice before I start duplicate work. If you are gonna give a go to the 3.x kernel, whatever number, I will wait for a while. I have a priority that dpups uses compatible kernel. So that people compiling third party kernel module drivers dont have to create same packages again and again.

I will check your packages work. It sounds really impressive.

I found one post about same error message.
http://www.wordfast.net/index.php?which ... 8&catId=32
Fall 2011 news: as of October 2011, Google seems to have started limiting access to their machine translation service. In effect, you may start seeing messages like this instead of machine-translated input:
It looks like our nice puppy app is about in the end of its life cycle. Lets see if something else evolves.

Also my used translate script does not work anymore:

Code: Select all

# translate car en fi
{"responseData": null, "responseDetails": "Suspected Terms of Service Abuse. Please see http://code.google.com/apis/errors", "responseStatus": 403}
Otherwise, there is google-chrome sfs for inbuild translations. Sfs apps downloader can be used. That browser sfs disables cups printing. But because it is sfs, unloading it enables cups printing.

Beem. I created Google Translator menu entry, so that there is one working translation possibility in Dpup.
I just couldnt be without testing....I compiled 3.0.7 and created with it, using latest woof, test Dpup . Not everything is right in first test build. Eth and Wlan drivers were not loaded automatically and sfs extensions does not have the filemnt association. Something is lacking.
KMS settings are changed. They need to be set off as default, it looks like. I had some hard moments with getting X, before I debugged the reason. Drm does not handle KMS. Well....maybe I need to check kernel specs also.

More fixes to the 3.0.7 kernel version. Iguleders shared-mime-info package misses puppy spesific .xml stuff. I added them and then in console: #update-mime-database, restart X and voila, sfs extensions got their ROX mime icon. Filemnt and bootmanager needed to be updated. My earlier fix is probably not needed. I created new mime assosiation (and it worked !) but now it is probably not needed.
I had used older script versions from zzdpup-utilities and those just needed to be replaced.

Now there is still the problem to be solved, why the network driver modules are not automatically loaded at bootup. It means dmesg inspection, but not today. I suppose/suspect my kernel compile is not 100 % succesful.

hi pemasu
why the network driver modules are not automatically loaded at bootup
this seems to be a common problem with both of the other k3 pups I have tried - racy, and wuxiandianzi's

with my b43 wifi anyway....

hope you can fix it - i have faith

Peebee. I think that b43 is just firmware dependent problem. Just copy the content of the b43.tar.gz package to the /lib/firmware from /lib/modules/all-firmware.
I seem to have kernel configuration problem. There is something deprecated which I have compiled in.
At least it looks like that atm.

Hi pemasu

That copy happens automatically and the b43 driver is loaded in all k2.6 pups but doesn't happen so far in any k3 pups.....

I got now really pleasant job. My six years old acer ferrari 4000 laptop withour lid (and screen) and with external monitor has been the comp for my oldest son. Now it seems to be broken totally, finally. Keyboard, touchpad or external usb mouse does not work. Lets see if I can resuscitate it still....I have already fixed it several times. But now the motherboard failure is possible.

But my son is in hurry, he needs working comp asap, internet connection, a way to communicate, watch movies, listen music immediately. Every second seems loosed time for 16 years old boy. Although I suspect he believes to live eternally, lol.

Now he accepts my OS as emergency fix, so I dragged old P4 with 4.3 GHz cpu and 1 Gb ram box into his room and installed 5.X.9 into it. I have gotten as free 3 old boxes from friends and from my day work when people does not need them. So...I have older boxes plenty.

Lets see....how he learns or likes to use Puppy Linux. He has used almost completely Windows XP (finnish version), only in car they have watched movies from my Linux laptop, so he knows something about Puppy and Linux. My youngest son, 10 years uses english Puppies only nowadays, lets see if I can convert next new happy Puppy Linux user....
