PostPosted: Mon 10 Oct 2011, 13:39    Post_subject:  startmount doesn't start GUI
Sub_title: startmount fail to start the configuration GUI

Puppy 5.2.8. hard install.
Everything ok but startmount...
Launching from the menu I see the partprobe bar , then nothing.
Launching from a terminal I get the following:
----
cat: /etc/puppyversion: No such file or directory
/usr/local/Startmount/Startmount: line 110: kill: (32612) - No such process

ok

** ERROR **: gtkdialog: Error in line 48, near token '</default>': syntax error

aborting...
/usr/local/Startmount/Startmount: line 430: 422 Aborted gtkdialog3 -p STARTMOUNT -c
----

Suggestions?
Emanuele.

Post here instead. There was another report of problems with Startmount.

It would be nice if you just post an answer instead of redirecting. Others have the same problem.

egirland,

It's been a while since Startmount was finished.

You have a full install which I've never used and not familiar with.

How many drives/partitions do you have ?

The report states there is no /etc/puppyversion have you checked this, does it exist?

The kill line refers to the progress bar which suggests you have no partitions for it to finish?

Still looking for the answer to egirland's post.
The redirect you posted went nowhere, hence, this "forum" is useless.

LOL That's how it's done here. You'll get the hang of it, or not.
I hope you two will be more positive in your comments.
Remember it's egirlands thread, not yours.

sajuaro,

Did you miss my post above ??

I answered and asked basic questions to help me find what was wrong with Startmount.

A bit harsh saying the forum is useless. It's only useless if users can't be bothered to read the posts !!

from the error message I can determine the following only:-

Code:
cat: /etc/puppyversion: No such file or directory

means that puppyversion seems to be missing. It's just a text file with '528' in it.

Code:
/usr/local/Startmount/Startmount: line 110: kill: (32612) - No such process

That's the 'kill' at end of progress bar script. Suggests it can't find anything for some reason.

Code:
ok

This report says the working directory exists.

Code:
** ERROR **: gtkdialog: Error in line 48, near token '</default>': syntax error

This is gtkdialogs way of saying there's a syntax error but as usual the line number bears no relationship to actual.

Code:
aborting...
/usr/local/Startmount/Startmount: line 430: 422 Aborted gtkdialog3 -p STARTMOUNT -c

This means the gui code errored out and wouldn't open.

Now, I need more information on the system it's being used on.
