That's good news. It makes me think it might be a retrovol problem, if you would like to try that retrovol pet.

installed the retrovol pet and have the same problem.

I am going to start over with clean full install and see if i still have problem.

If I install the super multimedia upgrade and RC instant update 002, do I need any of the other updates or patches??

No, that's all. Wow, people seem attached to that Super Multimedia Upgrade. It'snot really necessary and it is 10MB or so, so I am a little bit surprised.

That will help. Thanks.

BTW, what kind of sound card do you have?

Thanks majorfoo, Could you delete the file /root/.retrovolrc just to see if that helps with the RC's problem?

I'm also having problems with Retrovol after installing the RC 2 instant update .pet.The volume slider in system tray is stuck on 15% and cannot be adjusted up or down. However,I can alter the sound levels using the sliders within Retrovol.
I ran Alsa sound wizard but no change.

EditTried installing retrovol-0.10.pet without success.

Edit2Deleted file /root/.retrovolrc,restarted X and volume slider now working.

Deleted /root/.retrovolrc, restarted x and problem solved.

As always, it's Playdayz to the rescue when I encounter a glitch.

Thanks for your help and patience.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Order of installation

Playdayz, does it matter whether one installs update 2 or the multimedia update first?

Hi there,
just wanted to say thanks for this version of Puppy Linux. As I wrote here (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 582#578582) it's the first version that seems to run stable on my laptop and has all basic features working, which is a nice thing.

Thank you for all the work!

Some minor glitches:
When installing Skype with the SFS get feature from the puplets install dialogue AND having Puppy running in RAM you'll get a warning ("... experimental...") and it fails to install. BUT if you use the Puppy Package manager Skype installation, you end up with a working Skype. No big deal, really - to my mind it would be better to give the warning BEFORE the user tries a SFS get install, though.

For some reason I had to connect to WLAN twice to make the settings persistent. I tried other Puppy derivates and it was the same - if not worse. No difference if you go the easy or advanced config route. First WLAN setup is fine. Reboot the machine: WLAN settings gone. No connection. Repeat the WLAN configuration, reboot - and in Lupu528 it's working from then on.

Some localisation problems with the german language like some dialog boxes having YES/NO instead of JA/NEIN or missing umlauts (like ä for ae and so on) here and there.

Odd findings:
My laptop is getting rather hot, fan speed is quite high although I activated the CPU speed regulation and choosed 95% threshold. Most of the time I should get 2x800MHz instead of 2x2,1GHz that way... still the laptop is heating up while browsing etc. I'll do some more research on this, maybe using LAN instead of WLAN to get an idea.

Kind regards,
Th.

kevin bowers,
If the multimedia update is already installed, just go ahead and install the RC2 update. If multimedia is not installed, it is better to install that (the multimedia update) first. Thanks.

slow rox windows

#497 Post by scsijon »

@ playdayz

since updating with IU002:

I'm getting slow response or a visable lockup in ROX when using the slide-bar to go down the directory if the directory has 2000+ files in it AND if I have rox set for icons display, if the directory has 2000+ files in it AND if it's set for list display, there are no problems and it's instant motion.

If it's a visable lockup, the up-directory-arrow takes me up a level and I can start again.

Not sure what can be done though!

scsijon, Is it the RC2 version of IU002? Do you not have the problem if the update is not installed?

grub4dos failure with ext4

#499 Post by shinobar »

playdayz wrote:Shinobar - I can still include the latest grub4dos, but I am confused by your message. Just tell me it's better and I will include it ;-)
You need not upgrade grub4dos as for the lupu-528 which is now contains grub4dosconfig v1.7.
The ext4 failure depends on the fdisk version, and the failure does not occur on lupu.
Sorry for my wrong announcement.

what's different of pure-ftpd at lupu 520 and at lupu 528?
I use script in lupu 520 just working, and at lupu 528 not working. I'd already check it with pprocess process manager, and not appear.
This is my script (at startup) :
