Nevermind.
Three years in, and ROX-Filer still manages to surprise me from time to time! It's just so beautifully unlike every other file manager I've ever used. |
Yes i am the same - always seems to be something new about rox i never knew before.

Gee, you learn something new every day, the middle mouse button who would have guessed, I only use that to paste into the terminal instead of Shift+Insert

I've made a right-click add-on to set the background of Roxfiler, it works ok, though if installed as a pet package,
when uninstalled it leaves the shortcuts in /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/OpenWith/.image_jpeg....as well as the other image folders,
this leaves a dead link in the right click menu on images, I don't know why this is, I'll upload for testing, someone might be able to do something with it,
It is working for me, it sets bmp, jpg, png, xpm, tiff, gif, svg images as a background.
Geoffrey
edit: Here are some tile images that are from roxpatterns-0.1 pet package to use, these look ok as a background.

Uploaded a revised right_click_roxfiler_background-1.0.tar.gz, the other had a error in the menu text, two spaces in between ROXFiler Background.
Nothing serious

Could you post a version history with download links? It would be great to be able to identify a version that is suitable for a specific version of Puppy.

don570, It seems that right-click is not uninstalling correclty in Slacko 5.3. It looks like the directories that are added to /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/OpenWith/ are not deleted when the program is uninstalled. The right-click options stay on the right-click menu but most have the missing icon symbol and don't work if chosen (that is after uninstall). it's a frugal install. Does that make any sense? Thanks.

playdayz,
I noticed that when making a pet for the right click to add a background to rox filer, so I left a note stating the problem and only made a tar.gz file of it.

I think it will have to be uninstalled by putting an puninstall.sh script in the pet package to remove the offending files.
Read about it on this page http://puppylinux.com/development/createpet.htm

Thanks Geoffrey, that's what I was thinking myself. I have the list of files so I will try to do that today.

First of all if you try to use my package on a Puppy that I don't support
such as Slacko you will end up with some right click menu options that
don't work. A user can remove these menu options easily enough
but I don't want to encourage people to do that so I emphasize
that this works on only Wary and Lucid Puppy 525.
Second point --> the pinstall script has become ridiculously complex
especially now that Barry Kauler has dumped nicoedit and gone
back to leafpad. It took me several hours work and several
versions just to get that right.
To sum up the pinstall script causes to many changes to
the install for an uninstall to work correctly. So if you have
unfortunately installed my package in Slacko then I
can only suggest to delete irritating additions manually.
I'll try to support Racy Puppy once I download a copy.
It's a very slow download .

don570, The problem with uninstallation seems to be that PPM would not remove broken symlinks, which became broken when PPM uninstalled the targets of the symlinks. This script seems to finish the job--it could be added as a puninstall.sh. The .gz on the end is bogus so that it can be attached.
I am going to keep testing in Slacko (and lupufy-slacko) because peoplekiek right-click so much. Thanks.
I should say that in lupufy-slacko I am not using the pinstall.sh so that some options might not be created, but the ones I have tested have all been working so far, but there are many I haven't tested.

I found a fast download site for slacko
ftp://ftp.vcu.edu/pub/gnu+linux/puppylinux/puppy-5.3/
I'll take a look on Sunday.

new version 5.4 |
|
new version 5.4
-compatibility to Racy and Slacko added
-new version of Bacon Recorder 2.3.5
Tip --> I found that Slacko doesn't do
MD5sum , so I recommend that
gtkhash be installed first for Slacko
Then install Right-Click. The pinstall script checks
to see if ghasher or gtkhash is installed and
makes the right click options.
Edited see next post...
