I have made po and mo files for Russian for BK.pet.
Translated console lines for rc.shutdown are disabled in poedit.
And I hope that Russian people will not go to console for first shutdown.

If running from live-CD (with save-file on hard drive) or frugal installation (on hard drive), the work of your current session is immediately saved on the save-file. Thus, there is no choice possible for not saving it.

Can't believe I'm about to contradict you Barry...
...But I have my Lupu-526 [booted from a "live" CD-RW disk, with lupusave in a sub-folder on a partition on an internal HDD] set up so the pupsave on the HDD is treated as though a pupsave on a Flash Drive.
And then I have it configured so it NEVER auto-saves during the session [I can choose the moment to do it manually].
And then at shut-down/reboot I'm offered the choice "to save or not to save". Very Happy Cool

Here's an explanation of how I do it.

You are not contradicting me. If you configure things so that you have a save-file in internal HD, but instead of the normal PUPMODE=12 you have PUPMODE=13, then your work will be kept in RAM and flushed periodically. Then you can choose to not-save.

You should be able to achieve that by having "pmedia=ataflash" kernel boot parameter.

My earlier statement was based on the normal way that Puppy is used. The default is that a save-file on HD would be PUPMODE=12.

Racy 5.1.101 (5.2beta1), "Tiny", is uploaded. See my blog post:

http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02510

L18L and rodin.s,
Would you mind checking the translation in it? L18L, I have not applied your latest changes, could you check that in Racy?

Note that I have separated out the translation for the rc.shutdown and shutdownconfig scripts.

Translation is OK. But Cyrillic characters in console are not displayed so one line from rc.shutdown about saving session had white squares instead of letters.
I have made a pet to turn on Unicode in console. This method is used in Russian Puppies. Also this pet has dialog with UTF-8. To turn on UTF-8 in console it's needed to run command 'unicode_start'. It's in two places: /etc/rc.d/rc.local and in /usr/bin/xwin. i18n-d xwin with Russian mo-file are also included. After installing the pet X should be restarted. And after that Cyrillic characters in console are displayed.

I tested the latest (?) on my eee-701SD with tiny 800x480 resolution and most GUI are good except for the encryption choice.. it fills the screen with no buttons. This is in slacko-B5. Maybe it was overlooked?

Cheers

Thank you Smile

I don't know whether this will solve the problem but I have found a superfluous thus buggy $ in
usr/sbin/shutdownconfig line 578

Quote:
select \Zb\\\${$T_savetopart}\\\${PDEV1} \ZB (TAB then ENTER) to save direct to partition, or \Zb\\\${T_notsave}\ZB to shutdown without saving session...\"`"

delete the $ please.

Edited some minutes later...

1. Yes, I'm using that right now here in Lupu-526. Very Happy
And it works wonderfully well. Cool

2. Problem is...
I did this with a couple of other Puppies [Slacko & Wary methinks], and it didn't work on those. Sad
No idea why. Confused
Means I'm very inclined to use only Lupu-526 in which it DOES work.
I REALLY LIKE being able to choose when/whether or NOT to save the session.
I really like the simple/clear shut-down dialog [something like Save? = Yes/No].

3. I'd use an alternative method...
Especially if it had a dialog as simple and clear.
It would naturally need to offer the option "to save or not to save".
During the session and at shut-down.
I tried Pupsaveconfig, and it worked, but not so simple/elegant as my primary method.
Is your Shutdownconfig not intended to do this kind of thing?
My old mind is having difficulty grasping the totality of your concept.
I gather both of them must be used prior to the existence of a pupsave file...
To set up the new pupsave file.
Pity they cannot be applied to an existing pupsave.

4. Seems the abilty "to save or not to save" all depends upon the pupsave on an internal HDD being treated as though a pupsave on a Flash Drive.

First Impressions to shutdownconfig : on normal save files it works as expected .

Second impression : on encrypted save files it does not [always?] work properly [ especially see slacko threads ] .

[ have only tested this feature from X at manual frugal installs and not from console ]

[ EDIT ]
Since racy-5.2.1.90 the save to encrypted save-files works again
[ / EDIT ]

rc.shutdown now runs shutdownconfig and most relevant part of the former code of rc,shutdown now is in shutdownconfig

Would take me some time to learn more precisely how it works now [ especially the gettext parts ] .

BESIDES THAT :
What I would like to have is NOT a rm -rf [/tmp/]files @shutdown BUT @boot [rc.sysinit] !
1 : these files would be still viewable if something happens .
2 : it would eliminate the security risk of having files leftover having had a hard reset .
