How are you checking this?
I opened CUPS and went to Administration and clicked Find New Printers.

That has always worked in the past ...

BTW: I posted that before you requested the Nmap output.

Does the nmap output tell us anything helpful, please?

You don't need to do this - the printers are already installed. Either open the Printers section of CUPS or just launch an application and open its Print dialog.

Wow, way cool, it works! Thanks

Now that they have updated to automate things why have they left the old instructions in place?

It is very confusing for those of us who are used to the old way - and for the rare bird who reads instructions! ;-)

CUPS shared printers have ALWAYS worked this way.

Warrior522. Install xorg_high pet with puppy package manager, or xorg_high.sfs with dpup sfs downloader.

CUPS shared printers have ALWAYS worked this way.
CUPS has instructions to click on the host computer to make attached printers available to other computers on the same system.

CUPS has instructions for client computers to click if one wants access to computers that have been made available "Shared" on other computers on the system.

CUPS always used to require both of those selections to be checked if Shared access to printers was to work (which is intuitive as otherwise they'd be no reason for those selections to even exist).

CUPS has a selection to Find New Printers. Since the client computer shows no printers this setting strongly implies that one needs to click this to add them. This is what I was told in the past - now I am wondering if this was never true - it may be why I had so many problems with shared printers - and why it has been disabled (that is, when I click it nothing is found, rather than in the past I clicked it and it did find Shared printers - and that meant two different computers were trying to control the same printer). This new way, whenever it was changed, is good!

My observation is that if the client setting is no longer necessary than the client selection(s) to enable access to printers on other computers probably should go away. (Or its purpose be clarified - only to find locally-connected printers and not shared printers connected elsewhere. I doubt that I am the only one it has confused.)

Just an idea to reduce confusion. Please do as you deem best ... I am just a user ... I am not doing the heavy-lifting of writing code! :-)

In CUPS 1.1, all printers were advertised by default, which could get pretty confusing. So in newer CUPS, there are two steps. You must select the individual printers that you want to share, then turn on sharing as a whole. CUPS 1.3 uses different terminology for this than CUPS 1.4.

My observation is that if the client setting is no longer necessary than the client selection(s) to enable access to printers on other computers probably should go away.

On every version of CUPS I have seen, that box was checked by default. And to my knowledge, it STILL needs to be checked in order to see remote printers.

I can't comment on your previous experiences. But here is how it has always worked for me. "Find new printers" either finds new locally attached printers or remote stand-alone printers. It does NOT find remote CUPS printers because it ALREADY knows about them. So when you open the Printers section, they are already there. But that presumes that you have done the setup correctly on the server machine.
Just an idea to reduce confusion. Please do as you deem best ... I am just a user ... I am not doing the heavy-lifting of writing code!
Neither am I. You should send your suggestions to the CUPS developer.

However, I try to keep the instructions here up to date.

Argolance has taken great step to create gtkdialog based gui for xcompmgr. I got permission to upload his first test version in this thread to test it and give feedback...if you want.
There is probably some need for english language translation polishing, but because I am not native english speaker, I let mostly other people to evaluate the translation. I stripped included binaries and removed the already existing ones. In my test there didnt seem to be any misbehavior.
This pet is for Exprimo only.

Original thread is here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 380#576380

My wholehearted thanks to Argolance of his achievement.

I run Squeeze5.x.9 frugal on a stone old Medion Laptop (MD96067).
I changed /etc/x11/Xorg.conf:
Option "MaxTapTime" "220"
But tapping doesn't work.
It worked with fluppy.
What's my fault?
EDIT: Yes, I restarted X

Laie. Have you checked touchpad options with Flsynclient. you find that app from the menu. In Tapping section, enable One Finger Left Button, or also Two finger etc.. options.

Also check the Tapping time in that panel also.

If the changes does not take effect, check the Tapping problem fix some posts earlier.

No, I didn't know Flsysclient before. Thanks for the hint!
By the way: I did not find it in the menu. But the terminal started it.
Later I found it in PupControl
Everything is ok now.

5.X.9 TEST – POSSIBLE MINOR BUG IN FIREFOX.

#1252 Post by ETP »

pemasu

Currently testing manual frugal install on fat32 USB2 stick. (ext2 savefile/syslinux 4.04 boot). MD5 was first confirmed.

No problem creating save file & Frisbee set up DHCP. I appreciated the ability to disable Frisbee & to use SNS to set up a static I/P which I prefer. ( This confined the dog to its kennel! – it can become tiresome when using a static I/P)

Upon launching Firefox I was unable to save a bookmark or import bookmarks. The solution was to:

1. Disable Flashblock and FireFtp, then exit Firefox.
2. Delete places.sqlite then relaunch.

Should this bug be confirmed by others it would suggest that places.sqlite in the ISO is corrupt.
Regards ETP

Hi pemasu

Should the abiword-2.9.0-gnumeric-1.10.13-goffice-0.8.12-dpup.sfs
be still usable in exprimo 5.X.9?

I found that i needed to install the dependencies:
libgsf-1-114_1.14.21-2_i386.deb
libgsf-gnome-1-114_1.14.18-1_i386.deb

from Debian into 5.X.9
and then both abiword and gnumeric worked, but didn't without them.

Thanks

Peebee. Yep. I have removed those libs from 5.X.9 and they are needed now with that older abiword-gnumeric package. I have packaged another abiword-gnumeric combo to the Exprimo repo now. Abiword is older (latest stable 2.86, but goffice and gnumeric is newer in that one) and that combo has those libgsf stuff included. That other which you downloaded has been done earlier and it needs those libgsf stuff which you downloaded.

Debian libgsf-1-114_1.14.21-2_i386.deb and libgsf-gnome-1-114_1.14.18-1_i386.deb are the right needed dependencies for this older abiword-gnumeric sfs and pet.

The packages are now:
abiword-2.8.6-gnumeric-1.10.17-goffice-0.8.17-dpup (does not need libgsf stuff)
abiword-2.9.0-gnumeric-1.10.13-goffice-0.8.12-dpup (needs those libs)

And straight download site is:

Bump?
edoc wrote:Has anyone tried games under 5X8 or 5X9?

Our son says he's having trouble getting SuperTux to work.

It appears to me that some SuperTux folder locations have changed ... or so it seems from calling supertux from Console and then looking at the folders.

I tried to manually relocate them according to the error messages but have not yet foud just the right combination ... and errors can sometimes be a bit generic.

Anyone already addressed this already, please?

Edoc. Sorry...I cant help with games. I have made clear desicion about games. We have PS2 and PS3 playing boxes for games in our family. I have told for my kids that I wont try update their pc`s for games at all. If they buy pc games they are on their own. I refer to windows pc games.

That`s why they have PS2, PS3 and also for traveling in car, PS hand console.

Flash games are the only games I will help them. This has kept my youngest son satisfied with Puppy. Sometimes he needs help with translation. He has only english Puppies as OS in his comp and my older son uses my old Acer Ferrari laptop, without lid (screen has died) with external screen. 1 Gb RAM, 128 Mb ATI graphics with XP and he still uses it almost happily.

So....no games with pc in hour house. Sorry.

Pungus and TuxMath work (so I presume that the other Tux___ learning games will as well.

I get the limit on game support - I refuse to support anything written for a MS version of windows.

They enjoyed a variety of Linux-native games under older versions of Puppy and have been longing for them again.

Our teen son is working with the guys on the Puppy Arcade thread to sort out those games - he's on his own on that! ;-)

I still haven't figured out the odd background problem - the 5X8 background is retained when I upgrade to 5X9 and use the 5X8 Savefile. Is there a place in the Savefile to delete the 5X8 background so the 5X9 one will show up?

Thanks!

No joy.

I looked in /usr/share/backgrounds and the "Addict" background is not there, but Exprimo is.

Something must have failed in my update.

No big thing, I'll fuss with it when you release 6.0
