94 Meg (it also says 98 MB - so not quite sure)
For those of you not having used bit torrent before . . .
Puppy has Transmission bit torrent built in (Puppy 1.09CE onward)
Go to the link from Khl
Next to download you will see a bit torrent link - download this
Start Transmission
Click on add and navigate to the file you have downloaded
What is bit torrent?
Server sharing . . .
Basically as you download (leech software)
you are also a seeder (someone hosting and uploading to other downloaders)
So with bit torrent the more people downloading THE FASTER IT GETS
Distributed computing - Power to the Puppys!
Some people use a second machine to seed some of their favourite downloads . . .
Make sure you download and look at some of the unique wonderfullness that is optimised.
When you first boot up (on my machine) you end up at a prompt
type xorgwizard (it tells you in fact) to set up X (the graphics driver)
the again at the prompt type xwin to run - have fun it is a great IceWM based distro . . .
Based I believe on the 2.4 kernel?
It is fast
two superb themes - plastic and XP
Firestarter Firewall
It uses the new Rox (looks superb but that is slow . . .)
It has some unusual Radio Stations
August HTML editor
The Extra software (package manager) html pages are going to greenville.com instead of .pups and pupget pages . . .
two p2p - Gift (and Transmision)
Audacity
grip ripper and . . .
. . . go find out . . .
What do you think?
I like it.

What's the login and password?
I tried booting Optimized but got stuck at the login and pw. I tried "root/root," but that was too clever by half. Does anyone (the developer, for example) know?

Problem with PupGet
I've been having a look at this ISO and I'm impressed. One problem I found is that when I try to use PupGet I get the following error message:
"There is a formatting error in /root/.packages/alienpackages.txt
Probably an alien package install script has appended a line to this file,
but with incorrect format. You should be able to visually examine this file
and determine the offending package. You should then be able to manually fix
it, then inform the package creator that installation is faulty.
-- this could be the case of an improperly design DotPup installer.
Entries in alienpackages.txt should have this format:
"qhacc-3.3" "qhacc-3.3: Accounting" on "QT3APPS 3104K" \
An entry must be exactly like this, no extra spaces between fields, no more
or less quotes, space followed by backslash on the end. No blank lines.
Note, there must be a RETURN on the end of the last line (that is, the
text editor cursor can be moved to below the last line)
Press OK button to quit PupGet...
However, when I look at alienpackages.txt, it' empty. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

Try to add such an entry.
Then it should have 2 lines, the second is completely empty.
Mark
Code: Select all
"Dummy" "Dummy" on "" \
Mark
Thanks
I'll try that later and advise if it solves the problem.

Actually, I think just deleting the file would work if there's nothing in it. Alienpackages.txt is not supposed to be there unless there are, well, alien packages installed that registered with Pupget.
If adding a dummy entry or deleting the file does not work then check out livepackages.txt and packages.txt, and make sure the syntax did not get messed up there somehow.

Bring on the locusts ...
Thanks that worked
Deleting the file solved the problem.
I find Opera makes this distro boot faster
I like this distro, but I found that it was quite slow to load the XP background and icons. Also, there is a marked delay in loading Firefox or Rox the first time.
However, I found that installing Opera and removing Firefox made the loading faster and Opera opens up at "normal" Puppy speed i.e. fast.
I have no idea why, but others may find this useful.

I moved the iso from dotpups.de here:

Of all the "pups" I've tried (there's a lot of them running around out there in the yard) I like Optimized the best. The layout and apps suits my needs (almost). After adding gimp, cups, gimp-print, sane, xsane, xfe, and mc and blowing away ROX and a few others, I could live with this "pup".
Nice work. I hope you do the same for the pup 2.xx.
