Dear puppians,

Here is a remake of Lobster's psbagen (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 6&start=15), with 117 additional sequences of various kinds. It requires thunor's revised gtkdialog4 (can be a symlink) and a recent gtkdialog-splash symlinked to yaf-splash. I included a volume control, info about each sequence, a status bar to show elapsed time (thanks to thunor). The audio engine for this program (the program that generates binaural beats) is sbagen and is included. It was compiled in Lucid. I also included another utility drg2sbg, which can translate I-doser doses to native sbagen format. Have fun and, perhaps, find enlightenement...

With kind regards,
vovchik

Interesting..

The volume control seems to be connected to Master. On my laptop, the headphone jack gets regulated only by Headphone or PCM controls.

Suggestion: You might include a live link in the About page to uuazu.net/sbagen. I went to their site, and the links to the Monroe Institute and Centerpoint don't work...which are the refs to research... not good
(http://www.centerpointe.com/links.php?ad=27103)
(http://www.monroeinstitute.com/content. ... tent_id=69)

A visit to Monroe Institute Site....why do I feel scammed?

"A recent independent longitudinal study reported that those who have attended multiple graduate programs at The Monroe Institute have a higher degree of self-efficacy and life satisfaction than those who have not! Take control of your happiness today"

A visit to the Centerpointe site.....now I really feel lousy....

Dear jpeps,

I think some relevant links relating to binaural beats are here:

http://www.monroeinstitute.org/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monroe_Institute
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_beats

Also, I found a link to the first Scientific American article here: http://www.amadeux.net/sublimen/documen ... eBrain.pdf

As for the volume control, I will use PCM in the next version. It is pretty easy to change in the source. I will also include these links in the "Help" section.

With kind regards,
vovchik

I am a poor reader of texts. Which puppy version would it works best on out of the box. Without having to add pets or change anything?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

vovchik Another utility you may want to check out is Opendoser an open source program used to play I-doser files which also uses sbagen and drg2sbg, it's got a very simple and nice interface, I included a copy of it PupRescue for relaxing times while waiting for a virus scan or such to finish up.

Edit: You might want to warn people that binural beats only work well with quality headphones which fully encompass the ears, and trying to play them through your computer speakers can destroy them.

Are these binaural or monaural sounds? Maybe my soundcard isn't working correctly.

They are binural, I just found the answer to my above question just about to test it out

Edit: Works just fine, really neat little program I think it'll compliment Opendoser real nice on my system. Only thing I have to say is you might not want to have all those premium I-doser files in there, even though they are converted back to sbg files they are still commercial beats.

Dear DPUP5520,

Thanks. I am not too worried about the doser stuff for two basic reasons: (a) the sbg files are basically "re-engineered" data statements and I cannot tell how closely they resemble the original drg sequences (like a pop remix?) (b) the doser people had for years obfuscated and exploited the open-source GPL'd sbagen code without attribution or permission, in clear violation of the GPL. You can Google for an interview with Jim Peters (author of sbagen); he discusses this rather nasty business.

With kind regards,
vovchik

PS. The interview is here: http://technoccult.net/archives/2010/07 ... interview/

Yes I've seen this before when I originally started using sbagen on it's homepage he speaks of what happened with the referred to company. I've been using binural brainwave beats for quite a long time now, they help me relax and clear my head as I'm quite sensitive to them so any programs or new beats to try out are always much appriciated.

Dear DPUP5520,

There are a lot of useful presets for sbagen here: http://healingbeats.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6. In fact, some of my doser sequences were found on this site. In my next version, I will add an "Extras" or "User" category, allowing newly donwloaded sequences to be placed in this category, with automatic menu updating in Zensound.

With kind regards,
vovchik

Looks like version 1.4.5 is available. Sbagen has lots of available options when used from command line. (see sbagen -h).

Dear jpeps,

According to the source change log, the only difference between 1.44.and 1.4.5 is that the latter contains and update for OSX ("Update Mac OSX build to use Intel 32-bit"). So is there a point at the moment? I don't think so, but perhaps I will put 1.4.5 in the next release.

With kind regards,
vovchik

PS. Just compiled 1.4.5 and it works fine.:)

hi vovchik

can you explain this to me and what i'm supposed to do. ....?
It requires thunor's revised gtkdialog4 (can be a symlink) and a recent gtkdialog-splash symlinked to yaf-splash.
cheers

Dear 666philb,

You need a very recent gtkdialog linked as gtkdialog4. Here is a pet that might work for you (if you have a recent puppy): http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... i486-s.pet. It should also make the symlink.

You also need 01micko's recent yaf-splash replacement (gtkdialog-splash), which needs to be symlinked to yaf-splash. The installer will do this for you, most probably. The file is here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... ash-r3.pet.

That's about it.

With kind regards,
vovchik

Nice job packaging this, vovchik. Maybe this is the gui that Jim never got around to creating. I may try this out in a clinical setting, say with stroke, chronic pain victims (hope I don't get sued..then again seems much more sane then EMDR :) )

Dear jpeps,

I am working on version 0.2c, which will allow for user-supplied sequences. I have also collected some 120 additional public domain sequences, many in the medical realm (constipation, menstrual pain, cancer, headaches, vision impairment, pain mitigation, sinus congestion etc,). These sequences will be in the next version, too. I hope they will be of use to you.

With kind regards,
vovchik

Great! Be sure to include one for making money in the stock market (I fell asleep listening to "Multiple Orgasms" :) )
