Today I am downloading TXZpup. It is based on Slackware like 5.3. So my question is what are the differents between TXZpup and 5.3 slacko?

Can/ will slacko support txz packages?

Finally, I have an old 1ghz computer, is either suitable?

TXZ runs reasonably well on my P450 laptop, and very well on the 800mhz desktop. Any pup that can't run on 1ghz needs tying to a brick and leading to the nearest canal if you ask me.

On my Acer D250 TXZpup does not run well at all.

Now that was a long time ago I tested so if it has changed kernel or added drivers or accepted to have Simple Network setup or what it was that failed last time.

As I remember but I do have a poor memory. TXZpup was one out of some 20 puppies that failed so all the others worked but not TXZpup.

If that has changed then I do apology. But TXZpup made me very disappointed last time I tested.

Is it better now? what have changed since then?

It's not just the cpu speed , amount of ram and what other hardware
support that also counts. I have a computer that will not run some
versions and one with same cup mhz. and amount ofram that will.

dark city, barry made spup 100/200/400 due to questions about why the other pup5 branches had been ignored

haven't tried 100 or 200 but used spup 400 for a while.
it was nearly as good as gospil's dpup 484. and i did get files from slacware repos out of it cleanly
it did most of what was hanging up in lupu at the time. that was about lupu 51 and dev on 52
i gave it a good word in #puppylinux and got some folks to look at it
about a month later micko01 started making spup 051.
he also released spup 052, not sure if 053
then he changed some of the internals- kernel and xorg and the name to slackpup.

since it worked so nicely and had gathered interest, it got picked to try for an official candidate. and now we have slacko.
re superceded.... all pups can run standalone.
right now your issue might be getting things to update from the ppm. some project repos don't work in older pups

but you can still add pets and you could likely get slack binaries to add
